Lutz denies Pontiac not getting Alpha platform |
|
Dec 06, 2007 - 1:30 PM - by dascrow

When we read in Motor Trend that the Alpha platform would find its way beneath the bow tie instead of the next G6, we were a little disappointed. It didn't make sense that GM would forego the performance-oriented image of Pontiac that Blogger Bob promised us for the more family-friendly, high volume Chevy brand. If you can believe that Maximum Bob returns emails from fanatical Cheers and Gears message board posters (we definitely wouldn't put it past him), then we have nothing to worry about.
In the alleged email, the industry's most outspoken executive cut right to the chase to tell the wide-eyed emailer that Motor Trend's story was "totally untrue." Heck, maybe we'll get the best of both worlds and the General will make a Alpha-based performance Pontiac and a stylish, fun and affordable Chevrolet. We've been denied many of the best overseas platforms for too long, but nothing can make us forgive and forget faster than a couple of world-class RWD sedans that aren't the size of a freighter.

Pontiac wants gamers to come in and say Halo |
|
Sep 17, 2007 - 10:41 AM - by dascrow

Pontiac is betting hardcore Halo fans just can't wait to own a copy of Halo 3 when it goes on sale Sept. 25. So to help relieve some of that tension, the carmaker is giving away 1,000 copies of the game in a contest that ends today.
With only a few hours left to play, hurry to Pontiac's special Halo-related site, solve a simple word puzzle and find out if you're a winner instantly. As you can see, we didn't win.
The Halo tie-in is part of Pontiac's attempt to woo young males into their showrooms. A previous Halo-related tie-in featured a Halo-themed G5 at events in San Francisco and New York where lucky gamers could try H3 before most everyone else. This second phase of the campaign seems to feature the G6 GXP, at least on the ' screen. I wonder if winners see a G8. Hmmm. We'll try again today to find out for you. Hey, it's the least we can do, right?

Pontiac prices G6 GXP from $26,595 |
|

Do you love it or hate it? Either way, you'll need to fork over some extra cash if stepping up to the new top model in Pontiac's G6 line up, the G6 GXP. The 2008 Pontiac GXP Coupe will start at $26,595 and the sedan version will base at $26,795. Both prices include a delivery fee of $650.
If you're really daring, you can hand the dealer another $990 for the Street Edition Package that violates all manner of civilized taste. Included in the Street package is a "hammerhead" spoiler that could easily seat two for lunch, as well as all sorts of "scoops and bezels" on the hood. As far as we can tell the G6 GXP comes with that garish nose regardless of whether you choose the Street Edition Package.
The front-wheel drive G6 GXP comes with GM's 3.6L V6 producing 252 horsepower and 251 ft-lbs of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. That should be enough to squirt the car past that chuckling mob of onlookers, although push it too hard and torque steer might drive you right into them. The car's also feature a performance-tuned suspension and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. If you can't tell, we're not big fans of the G6 GXP's styling, but otherwise it's got some decent hardware to back up... [Read More]

As was previously announced, the G6 Owners Club has been sold, and the transaction is now finalized. The new owners will be taking over shortly, and the site transfer has been initialized.
Kelly & I would like to thank you all for everything, it's been a fun few years. We wish the best of luck to the new owners, and we hope the G6OC forums are a success.
As of now Kelly and I are no longer responsible for the website & forums. Any changes to the site are now beyond our control. Please direct any questions concerns and concerns to the new owners, who should be making themselves known shortly.
Thanks once again!
Shawn & Kelly
