2006 Pontiac G6 Temp Gauge Not Working

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 2.4L with 133,000 on it. Yesterday my temp gauge dropped to C and stayed there. A few hours later the engine light came on with the code P0128. Coolant is at correct level, changed the thermostat a few months back and just yesterday changed the ECT sensor. Started car after changing ECT and engine light still on. Disconnected battery for a few minutes and that caused the engine light to go off and temp gauge was working. Today, temp gauge not working again but engine light has yet to come back on. Read a lot of forums on this so far. Some say change thermostat, some say ECT fixed problem, one said Mass Air Flow sensor was the problem, others said ECM, others said PCM. HELP! I don't want to play the guessing game

If you haven't found an answer yet, I would replace the thermostat but also doing the ECT isn't a bad idea. I had this exact same issue with the same code back in December. My 2008 G6 2.4L had about 155,000km on it back then. I replaced both the ECT and the thermostat and my problem went away.
There's a gasket on the thermostat that can slip off or wear out over time. It's a relatively easy and cheap fix. I'm in Canada and it was like $30/35 for the thermostat, so if you're in the US it's likely a bit cheaper. I think my ECT was about $20. The ECT's a bit trickier because of where it is on the driver side of your engine. I'm lazy, so I didn't detach any pipes and was only able to do about 1/12 of a turn then threaded it by hand and drained out my coolant at the same time since it was about seven years old. To do both took about an hour, including cleaning everything up.
Here's a decent video to take you through the thermostat replacement. Good luck!
