Trunk not closing when top is down

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 2006 G6 GTP convertible. The top will go down with no issues but the trunk lid will not go back down when the top is stowed. I'm guessing there is some sensor being blocked or acting up. The trunk goes up and down with no issues any other time. Anyone have any ideas? Also can anyone give me info on how to do general maintenance of the top to ensure it stays operating properly?

I noticed today there was a damaged cable in the trunk. Anyone know what it goes to? I'm wondering if it has something to do with my issue.

My best guess would be the cable that moves the "bat wing" - the black plastic wing that flips out when the top goes down. You should see it in the picture and you should find one on the other side. it runs from one of the main hinges (1) through a tube to what looks to be the bit you are seeing (2) and round to the wing mechanism (3).

Hope that helps

That is exactly what it is for Boomer. A friend and I looked very close to the top today and found neither of the bat wings were operational because the cables have been removed or damaged. The part the wings are attached to was not going up as the top came down so it was getting pinched under the top instead of being above it causing the top not to go down all the way. We manually held it up as the top went down and we got the entire cycle to complete. Now to find out more info about the mechanisms so I can hopefully replace the cable myself and get everything working properly again.
