G6 wont start

Hello yall. Long time lurker, g-series enthusist

I recently got a second g6 for my g-series fleet(standard model). Today it began to crank hard. So naturally i took it to Advance auto parts for a check up. Everything came back position but as soon as i got home, the car refused to start anymore. No sound, no crank but the lights lit up.

Eventually i tried to start it again and it cranked for a second, failed, and a puff of white smoke arose from the engine. Do not know what to do

Few tidbits: the. battery is a month old. A few ago Chevy replaced the key ignition. Power steering and something with the brakes.

Thank you

It's reasonable to assume it's not the battery. So it's either a wiring issue or the starter. I would inspect the battery cables for a bad connection - usually corrosion. Trace them from the battery and follow them out to be sure there's not a bad connection downstream such as at the starter. If all the wiring is good, the next thing is to remove the starter and have it tested at a parts store. If the starter tests as good, the battery is the next thing to be tested. I doubt it's bad, but it's not unheard of for a new battery to be bad.
