Convertible top truck lid problem and solution

Ok I have posted on a couple of other threads but thought this problem and solution was unique and needed a thread of its own to maybe help another G6 convertible owner. I bought a 2008 G6 GT convertible is only 15,000 original miles, one owner who was actually a little old lady whose decrease husband bought her the car. She disliked it because it was a convertible so the top was rarely used and it sat in their climate controlled garage after he died. This is why I bought it and last week the top missed up for the first time. It would go up or down fine the the trunk lid would not go all the way into position to secure the top either way. The local chevy dealer who bought out the old Pontiac dealer couldn't get to it for 2 weeks and I am headed to Florida next week, plus I was worried with parts getting hard to get the car was ruined. Well took it to local trim shop and found out they had done the work for the Pontiac dealer back in the day and had DVD from Pontiac the dealer got for them. They told me nothing wrong or broken that they could find and that the trunk was off somehow. I don't know how this happened since I am very careful and never have anything in the trunk and car has never been wrecked. They aligned the trunk on both sides however the passenger side still hangs sometimes when taking down and putting back up but if I stop and get out and gently with min effort push and pull that side it works perfectly. The shop suggested I just do this and leave it alone since nothing is broken or bend that they can see. I would like everyone's thoughts on this. Also I am considering buying up some spare parts for the top while I can still find them since this car is like brand new. The guy at shop didn't think this was necessary or a good idea, but I would like everyone's input again. Also what parts seem to go bad the most often and are the hardest to find and should I try to buy if I do this, thanks everyone for your input.

My convertible top has always had a bit of a "sticky" trunk lid. When you move the roof, the hydraulics kick in to open the trunk from the window side and I always get a slight pop as if the trunk has to push past the clamps that normally close it in place. I have never had to help it by hand, nor have i tried to adjust it in any way.

I would not pre-purchase parts. You have no idea what will fail. Better to maintain what you have with the right lubricants. My car is a 2007 with something like 130k miles. I have owned it for about 3-4 years and regularly use the top - a couple of times a day if the weather permits. So far I have had no real issues.

Thanks for the advice. I really love this car its a shame more companies won't manufacture aftermarket parts. This is the old thing that keeps me from wanting to keep the car. Just put 10,000 miles on it (25,000) from my trip to Florida it did great also double coat or wax and thin coat of baby oil kept bugs and road tar from sticking. What did stick came off easy with dryer sheets and the finish was unharmed looks like factory new.
