Has anyone seen any 1/4 Mile times for the G6 yet?

Not yet... I can only imagine that they'd be close to the stock times of the Grand Am V6. At least until the GTP model is available. :)

Haven't heard of anything other than comparisons to other vehicles where their 'ET' is already known :(

I'm thinking that the GT should run in the mid 15s stock with the 200 HP engine with approximately the same weight as the GA. I just wondered if anyone's seen a review where they did a 1/4 mile run.

Car & Driver states that they estimate it to be between 15.6 and 17 (quite the safe range!)

Just an assumption, but I'd guess the 15.6 time would be from the 3.9L GTP model, not the GT. Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see some GTs from Michigan running those times off the factory floor.

The G6 GT was tested by Motorweek. The 1/4 mile time was a disappointing 16.1@87 mph. :(

Not suprising... I think at absolute best it could hit (15.6ish)...something magazines like Motorweek are incabable of. Unless evan smith (like he would waste his time) tested it I wouldnt expect much better than 15.9 out of it.

This site has a 7.2 0-60 and 15.6 in the 1/4... not sure if they guestimated or ran it..but the numbers are pretty specific. Hmmm....

Old Guy

After really thinking about it and having driven the car I would say my guess-timate would be more along the lines of a 15.8 - 15.9 depending on the track and weather conditions. (I know I said 15.7 in another thread but realistically I think I was overestimating.) A 15.4 is probably very possible in Michigan though. :p

My "automotive computer guru" (may he remain nameless), agrees that tweaking the PCM would definately be helpful, especially bumping up the tranny line pressure a bit to get rid of the sluggish shift between 1st and 2nd.

Dammit Kelly!!!! You're right....I won't be able to leave anything I buy alone!!!! Gotta make it faster!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see some better times turned by owners. But looking at that result it confirms what I thought: Even though the car has a (slightly) larger engine and 25 more HP, the other factors will keep performance to about the same level as the Grand Am it replaces.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some better times turned by owners. I agree. An owner has time to find all of the "sweet spots" and will probably push it a little harder than they do in tests.

The shifting is a HUGE setback for us.. the MPH looked promising itself..but the ETs are suffering from slow shifts and the extra curb weight.

There is a 2xxlb difference between the G6 and the GA.

I saw 16.4 @ Norwalk for the Pontiac Nationals. Bone stock.

Was the MPH crap? I know we have nothing off the line..in fact according to the published 0 - 60 times I see we shouldn't be able to see a 15 ever. It does pick up midrange pretty good.. so I was thinking maybe high 80s?

Hey I'll be there too! But I'm NOT racing my GTP haha, I just learned how to drive the 6MT not too long ago LOL.

I'm curious on the times too...they shouldn't be that bad, who knows.

Well I'll keep an eye out for you at MGM Smockonallama.

Hey, were you the guy in the GT Coupe that pulled up next to me and said, "looks like I'm gonna get beat by a girl" ?! haha.

Too bad I didn't race cuz I woulda liked to see a GTP run since the one you were referring to never made it.

As for the times you were running...I'll let you post those. A lot of guys had problems last nite tho which sucked. But definitely a lot of fast cars :D

Smockonallama
10-23-2005, 05:51 PM
Yup that was me. I like getting beat by girls. Call me nuts. Because of the poor track conditions nobody was running well. The track was way too cold to run on. Nobody could get traction. Plus the continentals on the G6 GT are not the best for traction on the track either. Now that I have made every escuse I can think of, I could only pull off 2 16.4's early in the evening and a 16.2 a little later. I would expect better times if the track conditions were better and my car had more than the 700 miles on it. Oh well. I really wanted to run next to a GTP but maybe next time. It was a fun weekend though.

~niKKi~
10-23-2005, 05:58 PM
Definitely a fun weekend!!
I drank a bit too much to run the car and I wasn't about to let anyone else race it haha...at least I have 1200 miles on it now! I saw the 2 16.4 runs. The track conditions were really crappy...

Maybe the Spring MGM we can race? :D

Oh for some reason I thought you lived on the Westside of the state? hmm. Lake Orion is not far at all.

I've been around the Grand Am/Grand Prix stuff for like 5 years. I used to own 2 GAGTs, always wanted a GPGTP and knew a lot of guys that had em.
MIGPC guys I know off the top of my head...Ryan M., Brandon J., Jason W...I knew all of the GA guys that were there too. You shoulda came back to the hotel with everyone :D it was crazy.

Oh I was there. But I have done MGM before and I learned to go to bed early before the bad stuff starts to happen. I also had to wake up early to drive back and clean the house as my parents had an open house today. I was partying until about 1:30 when I went to sleep.

Yeah I parked it farthest away against the building as I was afraid that people would get too drunk and mess with the G6 so I just wanted it out of view.

i would expect at least high 14's out of a G6 GTP. My 97 S-10 SS is running low 15's, i dont think it's even putting out 240 horses. at 180 hp stock it would run 15.9's. Unless the G6 is a heavy pig i would expect better. also are we talking coupe or sedan?
I'm considering getting a GTP coupe M6, and I'm hoping it would put out better times than my S-10. I'm going to go test drive one soon.

Can someone post a breakdown of a slip?? 16.2 doesnt really mean a whole lot.

For instance I ran 14.1 stock in auto camaro. At ~300rwhp I ran 14.3.

____Stock - Modded
60ft: 2.1 Vs 2.6 (they say every tenth is worth ~2 tenth ET)
MPH: 97 vs 103

So as you can see just from those two extra numbers.. the 14.3 run COULD have been a low 13 second pass. anyways..sorry for the blah blah bit here.. I was just wondering what the rest of the info looked like so I might be able to calculate what the 'BEST' we could do is. :) Thanks

~niKKi~
10-24-2005, 04:44 PM
Yeah that is true!
My '03 V6 Accord Coupe [auto] ran a 14.6 @ 101 mph!! A crappy 60 at 2.4...but I shoulda been quicker than a 14.6 with that trap speed.

So give us all teh numbers :D

I hope that accord was modded.... that curb and hp rating wasnt working out in my head...listed 1/4 14.5 sec @ 98 mph for the 6 speed manual... Those numbers you have are 260+hp (crank) numbers not 240... ????

10-24-2005, 07:26 PM
Yeah I was gonna say, I'm not lying. And listed 1/4 mile times are not always accurate. I had the automatic...the slip is on my cardomain site.

S8ER99
10-24-2005, 08:13 PM
LOL 1/4 times are essentially basic math.. .240hp and 32xxlbs with 21x trq != 100+mph traps :) If you hadn't had mods I would have been all over the bullshit button. However you can easily pick up 2 ~ 3mph on CAI and exhaust can easily contribute 2mph on the traps. It all 'adds' up if you will. :p :D

S8ER99
10-24-2005, 08:16 PM
Another interesting tidbit ... (These new SAE ratings are great)

I had a hunch they lied a little bit... while not drastic you actually had more hp than claimed. (244 horsepower and 211 pound-feet of torque) A majority of the Imports have lost major amounts of power due to the new rules. Seems the Accord is an exception.

Smockonallama
10-25-2005, 01:08 PM

S8ER99
10-25-2005, 01:49 PM
BEAUTIFUL... Sorry..just got a good look at your slip you posted. Don't be so bummed about the ET.. Your G6 picked up 19.5mph from the 1/8th mile to the end of the 1/4 mile... for what its worth my stock Z28 only picked up 18mph (though the numbers looked different...) Point is...the G6 packs some mid level acceleration. Just needs something to help it off the line.

Smockonallama
10-25-2005, 07:53 PM
Yeah it is just a lease so I can't do too much but we will see. I think at least an intake and a pcm reprogram should take car of getting me into the 15's I hope.

S8ER99
10-25-2005, 08:11 PM
Cutting that 60 ft down would get you near mid 15s man.. Kinda suprised the 60ft was that high. Did you go through the water box or around it?

S8ER99
10-25-2005, 08:21 PM
2.327 10.118@70.15 15.721@86.91
2.338 10.168@69.31 15.857@84.84
2.331 10.204@69.46 15.913@84.63
2.288 10.161@69.24 15.922@85.38

Yours.....
2.462 10.528@67.07 16.242@86.59

If you look at the above posted times...each car made it through the 1/8th mile quicker and faster..but all but 1 had less mph than you at the end. Pull the spare tire, maybe a few other things (if you can think of any) get a 2.0~2.1 60ft and you can get a 15.5 easy. With CAI/Exhaust and the spare tire out I think it would be easy to get below that mark. Of course if we could get the TM removed this conversation wouldnt even exists. LOL

Smockonallama
10-27-2005, 08:59 PM
It was way too cold to be racing. The track never warmed up so traction was terrible. Known 11 second cars were stuck in the 12's that night. It was just the weather. Spring is not too far away and that is when time will tell.

S8ER99
10-27-2005, 09:29 PM
LOL... its all good. I ran 14s in 18 degree weather on January 1st (hangover day at the track)... :D Never got anything better than a 2.4 60ft the entire day.

Hmmm, where did you find that info at? Cuz I coulda swore in the book/brochure from the dealership the Sedan is lighter. I'll have to check when I get home to see what it says.

I got rid of the Accord cuz it was bad luck for me, and I wanted a cheaper car payment...yep, now back to Pontiacs again haha.

its near the bottom.

Tell me about bad luck, someone ripped my rear bumper off last night. Didn’t even leave a note. That makes the third time I have been a victim of a hit and run add that to the 3 other non fault accidents I’ve been in and that =TIME TO GET A NEW FRIGGEN CAR! Oh and the curb weight I saw was: 6 cyl Sedan- 3,240; GT Coupe- 3,415
So apparently the GTPs weigh a little more.
