: First ticket with the G6
G6~Mike 03-02-2006, 03:08 PM On my way to work I was passing a guy in the right lane that was doing 35mph in a 40. When my door got next to his bumper he started to speed up so that I couldn't get by because I had to merge within a few hundred feet. I decided to just blow by him. When I came up and over a hill a cop was sitting there waiting for me. Clocked me at 57 and wrote a ticket for 50 in a 40  What pissed me off is that as soon as I got around the guy I slowed back to 45 which is how fast the other guy was going according to the cop and he still wrote the ticket for 10 over. I'm going to be fighting this one. :)
TLS2000 03-04-2006, 03:53 AM As much as the circumstances suck, you won't win based on that argument.
You were speeding, regardless of that guy being a dick, and the cop had every right to give you a ticket. If you couldn't pass safely, within the speed limit, then you shouldn't have passed.
I don't agree with it, but that's the way the law tends to work.
bristol16 03-04-2006, 10:21 AM considering the cop kida gave you a break on the ticket, i would just pay it. you gotta pay to play.

The problem with just paying it is that you get points on your license and insurance goes up for the next 3 years. I have contacted tixnix and will have them help me if need be. The worst that can happen is that I have to pay it or if the cop doesn't show the ticket goes away.

If it's your only ticket, your insurance shouldn't do anything. It's only 1 point, and all the "big" guys will give you 3 before they start jacking you for the high-risk rates.
The system in Kansas is pretty cool. Kansas (police, sheriff, hi-po) doesn't report anything up to 10mph over the posted limit to the insurance companies, so out here you can get as many "50 in a 40" tickets as you can afford without worrying. In Kansas City, it's almost expected to show up to fight a speeding ticket that exceeds the 10mph buffer - they'll plead you down to a non-moving violation by doubling the fine and it doesn't get reported again. Then everybody is happy - they get a ton of money, and you get no points.
Blackrider 03-06-2006, 05:50 PM Yeup I got one back in Jan, 190 dollars, nothing major I was guilty plain and simple.
TLS2000 03-06-2006, 07:17 PM I got a ticket last month. Was doing 99km/h in a 70km/h zone.
I went to the court house to plead guilty with reason, and they gave me an appointment to talk with the prosecutor in AUGUST.

Thats what I'm shooting for is a non moving violation. Here in MI 10mph over is 2 points and most insurance co's jack your rates up 30% every 6 months whether is your first ticket or not. I already checked on that because my mom sells insurance.

Man, that's harsh.
Sounds like they're trying to get you to move and take your tax dollars to another state. ;)
I'm starting to like our system down here more and more!

Lol, especially in MI where 10 over is 20 under what everyone else is driving.

"Honest, Officer Bob! I was just going with the flow of traffic!" :p

Yep, hopefully my lawyer can make it go away :)
I should know within the next week or so if I have to show for the formal court hearing. :(
GTPGuy82 03-11-2006, 05:13 PM If you're paying for a lawyer hopefully you should get off easily.

I hope so too. It also helps that ive never been pulled over in my life other than this occasion.
GTPGuy82 03-12-2006, 02:43 PM That could work in your favor....hopefully it will.

I agree ... Gotta love the KC Cops!
Lucius 05-09-2006, 11:10 AM I got my first ticket ever on Easter. 83 in a 65. Speed trap coming over the hill on an interstate I was unfamiliar with. I had to drive three hours for work and wanted to get to my destination before I passed out, otherwise I would have been doing 70ish.
Cop was a total douche, kept cutting me off when I was responding to his questions.
Just got my insurance bill yesterday and rates haven't changed, at least not yet. 80 dollar fine and 2 points on the ticket.
G6~Mike 05-09-2006, 11:18 AM I was able to get mine reduced to a Limited Access 1-5 over. Got the points removed and just had to pay the $95 fine. I will see what my insurance rates do when my policy renews.
