there is no way to check it, you can just take the cap off and maybe look inside. unless its leaking it should be full. I dumped a bottle of prolong tranny fluid in mine when it was new and it didn't overflow :)
51k miles and still going strong.

Hi Mike thank you for replying, I just have a question though, when i open the cap should i be able to see the oil, the reason i'm asking is because I bought this car as a salvage and had to install a new radiator but i added 7 qts of oil and i didnt see anything and i was just wondering, i called the dealer and i havent been gotten a straight answer, again thank you for replying. bhuezo@yahoo.com

To be honest, I have no idea. The last time I looked at mine was when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. I am pretty sure that you cannot see the fluid from the top though. You may check the manual to see if it lists the capacity of the transmission.

I don't think the manual has a capacity for the auto trans, I remember reading it should never need maintenance and should be okay unless there is leakage. Usually AutoZone can tell you the amount to use if you are changing the filter, or if you are doing a total rebuild.

The transmission oil is supposed to be maintenance free and should never need to be filled (up to the scheduled replacement) unless there is a problem or leak.

Since the car is salvage though, who knows how much would be left in there or what might have happened to it. What kind of damage was done to the car? How many miles are on the car? I would consider getting the oil replaced at a GM dealer if the mileage is high enough.

In any case, the 6-speed manual transmission (F40 (MT2)) cars have a 3.1L fluid capacity dry.
