: Exhaust & Intake installed.. What should I do Next?
hawk08 02-11-2008, 09:35 AM Alright I have a 2006 g6 gt with a magnaflow catback exhaust and an Ingen cold air intake.. i've heard about the ECU or ECM but honestly have no clue what its going to do for me. Im not sure what else there is to do without getting a new car to get more hp and acceleration time.. please help
daygon 02-11-2008, 06:41 PM yeah ... there's not much you can do with a G6 right now because nobody makes stuff for them ... somebody was going to make superchargers for them but they were way to expencive ... and a set of headers was like $800 ... so nobody wanted to buy anything for them ...
you can lower it ... that's for sure ...
jsholli 02-12-2008, 02:48 PM I have a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor from JET...the freak cost me $260, but I can feel a difference on days cooler than 50'F.
Now JET is offering chips for our cars, too. They are supposed to offer the benifits of stage 1 or stage 2 tuning while being completely reversible.
I've been wanting a programmer for years, but I might settle for a stage 2 chip!
newtog6s05model 02-26-2008, 11:07 PM jsholli nice license plate to start off... i just got my car and want to do k&n intake and not sure which exhaust yet someone needs to make a programmer bad tho
jsholli 02-27-2008, 10:38 AM Thanks Dustin! I think it goes pretty well with the car.
I have been contacting a few companies about programmers with no luck to speak of---only SuperChips said they would even think of considering it. The rest don't even respond.
I am hopefully going to talk to Nelson's Performance again later in the summer to see if there has been any changes, but as of now using the HPTuner setup, they can tune a 3.5L only from '07...since mine's an 06 that doesn't help very much. There are a few other companies up north offering PCM and TCM tunes currently, such as Wester's Garage and Vector Motorsports, but I would rather stick closer to home to have mine tuned.
Good luck with the intake!
BigStribS 02-27-2008, 11:58 AM I can tune it with HP tuners software
jsholli 02-28-2008, 11:17 AM I can tune it with HP tuners software
My 2006 3.5 can be tuned with HPTuner software even though their website specifically states 3.5Ls from 2007 only??? I would think they would exclude that year for a reason...
From HPTuners' website of supported vehicle applications (http://www.hptuners.com/products/vcmsuite_vehicles.php): "06-08 Pontiac G6 3.5, 3.6, 3.9 (3.5 in 07 only)"
But let me know, I am curious how it works and if that exclusion is just a type-O or something.
BigStribS 02-28-2008, 04:53 PM Hmm well I guess I can't for the 06. Thats my bad I just got my tuner back from there. Gonna have to call someone and see what the difference was between the 06 and 07. But other than that I have the tuning software for the rest!

!
I'm getting a tune for my wife's G6 Gt, where are the ECM and TCM located. Westers says that they need both.
jsholli 03-25-2008, 10:44 AM The PCM (ECM) is right by the battery in my '06 sedan...I think you have to take the battery cover off, if I remember correctly. I really don't know where the TCM is. I've tried looking over the forums, but you may just have to ask them for some instructions on how to get it out for them.
DeepBLueGXP 04-03-2008, 05:47 PM I found that one. I have the GM Service Manual on DVD and the damn thing doesn't have a component locator
oomonte 04-03-2008, 07:35 PM if its the 6speed auto the tcm is located inside the trans in the side cover...
