Hi everyone,

I installed few days ago on my 2005 G6 Gt K&N Typhoon CAI ...this thing rips the roads now

Anywho...any of you out there with CAI get the whistling sound under faster
acceleration? my car sound under the hood like supercharger

There is HUGE HP boost...can't wait to take it in few weeks for ride to Florida from IL to see what the MPG is going to be under "Normal" driving:D

That's cool. Intakes make a pretty big difference on these cars! I have one for sale right now that shoud work as good as the K&N if anyone is interested. See sig.

not to burst a bubble but K&N is only showing about a 5 horse increase. Not exactly huge in my book but maybe your old filter was packed full of dirt taking away 30 horse or something.....

Nope, my old OEM filter was just fine, I know I was sceptical too to pay $300 for CAI ...but I will tell you one thing, if you can control your foot you will get better gas mileage.

The major difference I noticed on my G6 is that it will smoke the tires and it has unmatched punch at 80mph. Maybe the weather conditions where not right when they did dyno test ..dunno ...and don't care for the chart becouse it works and sounds great for me:D

DID you look at the DYNO chart? as far I know the G6 GT has 219HP versus what they are saying 153.85HP....

The dyno is measuring power at the front wheels, not the engine. You lose at least 20% in the driveline. You really can't compare HP numbers from one dyno to another. There are too many variables that affect the numbers.

i talked to a tec at k&n about the whistling and she said that its a) you now have a lot more air moving through and/or b) by removing the stock air box you remove something that muffles the sound of air coming through.

so, what i did is i took the bottom part of the stock air box and put it back. this helped to silence alot of the whistle and i still get a good kick from it and it doesnt look too ghetto.

READ the K & N Disclaimer ...NO it does not void the Manufacturer (GM) warranty.

I was with my at dealer number of times with K & N under the hood.

Here is the link for the K&N warranty letter http://www.knfilters.com/warrantyletter.htm

Only thing I can tell you is that as said above ...been at dealer for warranty repairs while vehicle was still under manufacturers warranty.

I just read through the entire warranty letter. It seems to specifically refer to their air/fuel/oil filters but makes no mention of their intake kits. Most warranties allow for the use of whatever air/fuel/oil filter you want to use, because replacement of these items is considered general vehicle maintenance. Installing an aftermarket intake is more complicated and requires the removal of some OEM equipment, so it would most likely void your warranty.

My old dealership (before I moved) used to offer a way around this. They would allow customers to bring in certain aftermarket parts (nothing heavy... mostly intakes, lights, accessory gauges, etc). The service department would install them and (so they said) because the work was done by a certified pro it wouldn't void the warranty.

Like boss said... some dealerships might be willing to overlook a Typhoon kit as long as your car troubles have nothing to do with the intake system. But its not worth risking your factory warranty. Your best bet is to print out all the information about the part(s) you want to install and take it to your dealership service department. Ask them if it would void your warranty. Its better to ask beforehand rather than to find out the hard way later.

umm I don't know if you guys have read this or heard of this before. The * Magnusson Moss Warranty Act is there to protect your rights to modify a car and not void the warranty. You replace the intake system on your car you lost the warranty on your intake nothing else, same with exhaust. They have to prove that the aftermarket part caused the problem in the first place. Also if your so scarred about taking it to a dealership with the intake in just swap the stock on back in for warranty work it literally takes 5-10 mins tops to put it on and off.

can't wait to take it in few weeks for ride to Florida from IL to see what the MPG is going to be under "Normal" driving:D

Here is the scoope on MPG...

Air temperature has HUGE impact on MPG:

1. 75mph on highway with sunroof open as air deflector and outside temp. being 70F I managed to pull of 36mpg.

2. 75mph on highway at 32F ouside temp. (with sunroof closed :D) 27MPG.

3. Conservative City driving 22 MPG

4. Lead foot in city driving 18 MPG

P.S. I was running low on gas on highway and without gas station on radar
was forced to sneak behind Truck for shelter ...turned all accesories off
and got 39/40 MPG ....woohoooooooo

Its not my pick for obvious reasons but the Typhoon is a good intake.

In addition to Pontiac G6 GT ...I have it also on my Grand Marquis and let me tell you, before I installed the cold air I had constant problem with EGR clogging and IAC valve malfunctioning ...well no longer thanks to Cold Air :D

And I am just about ready to install it on my supped up 2004 Crown victoria LX Sport and combining this with SCT programmer for ECM ...I'll smoke Mercury Marauder in a heartbeat ...woohooooooo

Lampoon

Your 2006 GT would adjust to the flow just fine. Your ECM would adjust quite nicely.
You DO NOT need a tune for an intake on your engine and you will see both performance gains and MPG gains (if you can keep your foot out of it).

Just get an intake so I can answer your questions about your next mod decision. lol

I just cut the sides out of the lower airbox. left just enough plastic to give it a "frame" mounted it back in and looks like a stock intake but has the same effect as a CAI...

Nope....it is not the same effect as a CAI.
Your now sucking in hot engine air.
Your stock box was sealed off to prevent that.
You just hurt your performance.

You need a heat shield or you need to drop it into the fenderwell.

Please no one follow this guys advice. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk64/crabintakes/banghead.gif

Advice? i gave no advice. as for the heat shield, the right side of the box i never cut because of hot engine air. i did not hurt my performance because my MPG since has averaged 32 from 24. and i have noticed a slight power increase in the high rpm's. so yes its working.

and why dont you reem on newtog6s05model? he has no bottom airbox? wtf is up with people, oh i know jealousy......btw i love reading your comments. i'll be back monday with my final project and show you faggots some proof. (kinda hard to get pics without my car) AND until then ttyl.

Well cudos to K&N for that. Thats news to me. I was told plastic and
the one I looked at looked like plastic.

Yeah that heat shield looks like its off their F-150 line. Is it stretching your MAF wires
or is the heat shield damaging the paint where it sits? I read it bangs up and down there
and rubs the paint off. Its not like anyone looks at that paint in the engine bay but I was just curious.

Do you sell a 90 degree bend to go down just behind the bumper or do you only have it sitting behind the headlight? I saw one of the pictures on the crab website that someone has it that way and I'm just curious if he did that himself.

BTW. someone did a pretty good job with true fire on their engine cover :) I'm practicing it, but I'm not all that great yet because I don't have time ( :( stupid work...).

No the wires are not stretched at all... they actually still have a little slack. But I dont like where they sit. With the way it mounts its pretty solid, there is no movement at all, so no it doesnt rub. But at the same time it just doesnt fit right.. theres a big gap towards the rear of the heat shield. I'll try to get some pics this weekend.

Kick Ass! I was able to tell the difference right away. That better seal keeps all that warm engine air out, Before I had installed the CAI I went for the drop in K&N filter and I imedietly noticed a gain in mpgs, but when I installed the CAI I got more power but I think that warm air was effecting it because I felt I actually lost a couple mpg's. Now with the CAB I raised it a few. :D Thanks!

I have a 2009 3.5L and although I see the K&N Typhoon is only made for the 08 and below, nothing for the 09 - is this something they will be producing in the future or is it best to go for the CRAB at this point in time.
Secondly, on the CRAB setup, the Front Pipe Upgrade for $150.00 is currently out of stock, should I wait for the full set up or is the cone and clamps enough or is the dropin K&N the best idea for now?
Thanks again,
