What ATF has everyone been using? Regular or Syn? and what type/brand? I was thing about flushing the ATF since the trans is shifting somewhat hard at times. The car only has 17k miles on it, but I'd like to change the fluid soon. Is the stuff they use at the dealership good enough?

Dealer told me that ATF flushs are not recommended. Only a pan drop and drain. Apparently there are some issues with the trans when flushing out all the old fluid. Any thoughts?

Some years back I had a very reputable transmission repair shop tell me “unless absolutely necessary, never drop the trans pan for a fluid change.” I’ve stuck with this advise. He also said not to flush the fluid, a simple fluid change is always best.

What about the filter? Wouldn't you have to drop the pan to get to the filter?

:DI supose that would fall under the "absolutely necessary" catagory.:D

Since there is NO tranny dip stick how do you plan on refilling the tranny....I would love to change mine to synthetic but need more info first!

you dont need to change your auto-trans-fluid until 50,000 miles... just letting you know, even with hard driving it will be good up to then...

If you flush make sure they use a machine like BG services that removes all the fluid. I would replace with a universal syn.

The dip is behind the motor and firewall. Have to look back there a ways.

Now the question is, do you have the 3.5, 3.9 or manual tranny? If its a 4 speed auto it will be a black dip stick with with a finger ring on the end of it behind the coil pack. At least it is on my 3.9

The 4-speed tranny has no dipstick.
Dexron VI is already a synthetic transmission fluid.

I have 3.9 auto. tranny dipstick is behind the motor. Not sure about the 3.5
