Hey everyone, I'm new to the site but have been looking around for about a week or so and have decided that I should ask for some help.

My question is this...I bought a 2007 G6 GTP about 4 months ago brand new. I am looking to add maybe a muffler and a new air intake for it. I have the 3.6L V6 model. I am going to purchase the muffler first and was wondering if you guys have any advice on a good muffler for me, I cannot afford to get an entire exhaust system (I would really like the GT-R exhaust system but it is out of my price range currently).

Also, any ideas on a good air intake. I was looking at the Doctor Speed ones as those seem to be the only ones for the 3.6L. Any difference between the cold air box and the fender style one (sound or performance, which is better?)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for the quick reply. That intake definitely sounds great from the video I saw on youtube. Think I'll be buying that for myself for Christmas lol. Any recommendations for a good muffler? Like I said, I cannot afford an entire exhaust system right now. Also, does doing any of this void my warranty? The dealership that I bought it at is owned by my uncle and he said no and said that they could put it on but he has told me some incorrect information before so I just want to be sure.

no they will not do anything about it unless it is causing a problem. and I had my car in with problems b/c of my intake (stupid 2.4L) and they didnt void my warrenty. I'm Really not sure about mufflers

Thanks for the kudos Jake. Magnaflow does make 2.5" single in/dual out.

If your talking about the Magnaflow one made for the G6 I wouldnt get it because it is a single out exhaust.
If your gonna do it you might as well dual it out.

My first exhaust I did myself. yes first. Im on my third now. The original, then the one I made using magnaflow mufflers, then my current exhaust which is in my signature.

The only advice I can give you to save yourself from the mistakes I made is:

1. Find a shop that can mandrel bend the 2.5" pipes for you.
2. Do not replace the resonator with anything other than a flow through type muffler
that is no bigger around than 4". 3" would be best.
3. Do not get 3" or even 3.5" tips. GET 4" tips. They fit perfectly in the GTP back valance.
4. Also make sure your tips are dual walled, Dont cheap out here. Get the best tips you can.
5. Make sure the place that does the welding has an experienced guy who does not burn up/melt or butcher your pipes.

I know that Classic Performance opens up their magnaflow and alters the baffels to the
G6. I dont see that as an option for a do it yourselfer but I guess it could be done.

PM me for discount info if you hit the lotto or want to go the GT-R route.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into that and I also plan on getting one of those Crab intakes tomorrow. Would the Flowmaster Super 44 Series muffler be a good one for my car?

your best bet is a tune
from VECTOR

WAMS...cheaper & the same tuner.

Of course is the same tuner.....

But I prefer a reputable company not a copy cat
I bought a tune from him..... nothing but trouble, severe knocking and pinging. And the worst thing is that I bought my PCM from him when he was "working" with Vector... and now Vector cant do anything because he locked the PCM with his password.....
So for me....whitewhatever and Chris are just skimmers.

As for going back to the post......
Go with the original or go with HP tuners and sell your free credits.

I dont have any of those issues with my tune.
They lock them so you wont go in and steal their tunes.

HP? No thanks.

He locked it so well that Vector is unable to do a re-tune.

Go with the original, go with Vector, Western or HP tuners....

Avoid copycats

Flowmaster 44 is a good one. Might be a tad loud. You gonna drop a flow through muffler where the resonator is?? If so dont go larger than 4".
3" would be perfect. It will tone down the rasp.

I cant emphasize this enough...find a guy who can mandrel bend who knows how to weld good.

You guys will have to excuse me if I sound like a newbie about this stuff. But I have a basic idea of what the resonator does, but I have no idea where it is on the GTP or what it even looks like. I know a guy that works at a gm dealership who says I can take it down there to get a new muffler put on. Should I tell him to remove the resonator too? What will the benefits be, and what else would he have to modify in order to do this?

Does taking the resonator off after putting an aftermarket muffler make it sound better?

PS. I will most likely be getting the Flowmaster super 44 series...I'm pretty sure that it should work with my car. My GTP has 1 inlet and 2 outlets I believe.

whatever

The resonator is where the drive shaft would be if it was rear wheel drive. right down the middle of the car.

Mark.

It cuts the rasp. Unless you get the GT-R I would replace it with a nice flow through muffler. DO not put a restrictive muffler there.

Then attach your flowmaster on the back.
