: Advice on G6 Purchase?

Ok guys, I know some of you on this board have purchased a G6. If you follow any of my topics, you'd know that I'm considering selling my 00 GT and 99 Firebird to get a more practical, less expensive car for college.

Simply put, it's too expensive to insure a Firebird for six months (snow: cant drive it the rest of the year), and then another car, especially at eighteen years of age.

I've been looking heavily at the G6, and I really like what I see, for the most part. I want a sportier looking car, a sexy interior, with enough get up and go and options to balance out my well equiped Firebird, but maintain that small car atmosphere like my Grand Am.

For those of you that have a G6, please tell me what you really like about it, don't like about it, problems you've had with it, models you have or like, or colors you like.

Myself, I'm partial to the electric blue and fusion orange, and I'm looking at buying a GT model, because I can't afford a GTP even if it did come out. I want it very well optioned, how much do you think, after invoices, could I get a new one for?

Thanks guys.

(By the way, if any of you have some detailed interior/exterior shots, please attach them if you have the time, if not, your comments are more than appreciated.)

Here's what I would do, and did because I was in almost the same position two years ago. Sell the Firebird, keep the Grand Am, I kept my 2001. Wait until you have about a year and a half of school under your belt, find a good internship/ co-op, and then go buy a new car. You will find that in college there are a lot of things to spend money on. Have fun with that for a while and then get a newer car. But anyways, my G6 has been great, I got the orange GT just like you are saying you like. I only leased it for 2 years because like you, I want to upgrade to more performance when I can afford it. Overall its a great step up from a grand am GT, but you will miss your firebird performance. It is fairly cheap to insure as well, less than my GA. Hope this is a litle help for you.

I talked to my uncle today, who told me that I ever needed a new car, he'd be willing to help me out, and he said he could get me a GM discount if I bought a new G6. I'm not exactly sure how much that is, but he said its between 6k-8k, which is a good, hefty amount.

The way I look at it is, I'm torn at the moment.

On one end, I like the G6 GT and its fuel economy, but I really think, considering theres such a vague difference in pricing between the GT and GTP, I am going to wait for the GTP to come out, and in the meantime sell both my cars, which I don't need, get that discount eventually when I buy it, and have incentives off. That pretty much brought the car, brand new, down to 5500 or so for the Fully Loaded GT and 7600 for the completely loaded GTP. 7k for a near 30k dollar car isn't too bad.

The reason I want to wait for the GTP is that I love the duel exhaust, and having a 3.9L instead of a 3.5 is making better out of the already better! The gas milage isn't too great on the GTP, and I am concerned about that, but I'm trying to find a car to balance between my very well equiped Firebird (Leather and Panoramic sunroof to compensate for selling the Ttops and leather on my Bird), yet maintain a small car that's decent on gas.

For those of you who got incentives, how were they? What did you get off of the full price.

I had the dealer down to 22k from 27k for a GT in November, jsut for fun, so I'm figuring end of the year sales might be better.

I'm still torn on whether I should get a GT or a GTP. I want the extra zip of the GTP, and I don't remember much about test driving the GT. Comments?

The G6 is NOT a small car by any means, it drives much bigger than a grand am. I got GM supplier discount pricing, that means I get the car for about 10%-12% off the sticker price. But I leased mine. I pay $228 a month for 24 months with 12,000 miles a year. There was no money down but taxes and title. My car stickered for $25,750. I bought it at the end of December. Traditionally you will get a better deal at the end of a quarter when auto manufacturers are trying to bump up sales, this is not always the case however.

So when, in your eyes, si the best time to buy one for this year?

^ The end of the next quarter is at the end of June. I think that will be your best bet in the near future. If you can still find a 2005 model you would get a better deal, now all the G6's being built are 2006 MY.

That's awesome Betty!

I'm just wondering when they are planning on releasing the GTP trim for the G6, in terms of customer orders, and expected delivery dates.

If you have to keep tight lips about some things, I understand :).

So the GTP's have come out. have you done anything about it or are you waiting for the GXP? Just wondering kinda interested. Anyhow i am sure you have seen plenty of pictures of g6's on this forum. I got mine for a early b-day present and my mom showed me the invoice for the car and it was 16,800 for my White 2006 G6 coupe GTP it has just about everything except for a 6 cd changer and leather seats has everything else. It is a awesome car I think but all i have to compare it against is a 2003 Vibe Awd i have driven several other cars but not all that much to make a assumption of what kinda car they are.

Just my 2 cents....
G6 of course can't compare to your Firebird, and in my opinion, just mine, I like the ride and inside of the GA better that the G6. I had a '99 GT and I liked it better than the G6. Gas mileage was great on both, and I realize it was '99 when I got the GT, but it was a whole lot cheaper than the G6 GT. I also felt like I had more room in the GA GT, but that could just be me. My husband gets the GM discount, but no dealership I have ever been to has used it, they always tell me it doesn't make that much of a difference during sale times, so watch em!! Good Luck!! :)
