: K&N Gas Mileage
branderson 08-08-2005, 02:04 PM Since gas prices are not going to fall any time soon I am thinking about getting a k&n filter to help out. What I reallly want to know is how much of an increase, if any, have those of you with the filters seen in your G6? If it is around 2mpg like most of the "Testimonials" on the k&n site say then I think it is definately worth the purchase.
Hambone 08-08-2005, 02:13 PM I don't know about the MPG, but it will be the last air filter you will buy.
Fusion 08-08-2005, 03:19 PM I stand by K&N air filters, i have had one in my s10 for a very long time, and it has improved my throttle response, and the MPG by 1 or 2 (when it is clean).
MHadden 08-08-2005, 06:15 PM Not sure about the G6, but the one in my Focus has 55,000 miles and has been "cleaned and reacharged" twice and still works like a champ. I never really notice that much in MPG, maybe 1 or 2 highway like Fusion stated, but I think I noticed an improvement on off-the-line accel and pickup. Even if it doesn't do any of the above, like Hambone says, it'll be the last air filter you'll ever buy for that car.
Soulmates00 08-09-2005, 10:51 AM I put one in my G6 last week and have notice an increase in MPG. I was getting 20.5 a gallon now I get 23.5 a gallon city. I took it to In-laws about 300 miles round trip and was getting 36 a gallon.
branderson 08-09-2005, 12:41 PM Thanks all for the responses. Sounds like they really do work as advertised, think I wil stop off later this week and buy one.
GTPGuy82 08-11-2005, 04:43 AM Hmmm this has just been added on my 'to-buy' list for when my car arrives. thanks!
Mike
Explr1 08-11-2005, 07:14 AM The AC took a toll on my gas milage, it went from 24 mpg city to 19.8. After I put in the K&N and removed the airbox tube the MPG went back up to 25.6 with the AC on in the city.
GTPGuy82 08-11-2005, 06:17 PM hmmm where can I get a K&N air filter it's not listed on their website?
Mike
MHadden 08-11-2005, 07:57 PM Advanced Auto or Autozone is your best bet.
Hambone 08-12-2005, 05:49 AM Go to www.knfilters.com They will list part number for ya.
GTPGuy82 08-13-2005, 04:49 PM oh I was searching for a 2006 GTP with the 3.9L and they don't have one. I guess I'm out of luck with my coupe, unless the one listed for the 2005 3.5L fits it as well.
Mike
MHadden 08-13-2005, 05:01 PM DAMMIT! It appears, though, that the airboxes are the same for the 3500 and the 3900. Am I wrong?
BTW, post those pics of your coupe ;)
MHadden 08-14-2005, 04:17 PM According to the 2006 Owners Manual that some cool guy sent me, the airfilters for ALL the engines (2.4, 3.5, 3.9) are all the same, AC Delco P/N: A1615C
otcpharm 08-14-2005, 08:36 PM According to the 2006 Owners Manual that some cool guy sent me, the airfilters for ALL the engines (2.4, 3.5, 3.9) are all the same, AC Delco P/N: A1615C
Unfortunately, this has been found not to be the case. Something unusual has been found between G6's - two different air filters have apparently been used on the GTs but no real reason has been found.
Most of them actually come from the factory with an A2930C, even though the manual says A1615C. The A2930C is quite a bit larger than the A1615C. The filter that K&N lists on their site cross-references to the A2930C.
