: 07 Dyno and HP increases
paramount 12-06-2009, 06:02 AM Has anyone here dynoed an 07 g6 gt because stock it has the most horsepower (at the crank at least) than any other model year g6. I just want to know what you got for numbers and what mods you have, it would be really helpful because I am planning to dyno mine in the summer.:D I saw a thread that showed Lampoons numbers, but his model year had 200 hp stock. He got 159 at the wheel and after dyno got 209, so big increase there. Just would like to know cause If I add 9 hp to my stock 224, than I can get 233 at the wheels which sounds really fun.:D:D
paramount 12-06-2009, 06:14 AM just altering my previous numbers a bit. Lampoon got 160 at the wheels and 205 after the tune, so those are the real numbers. OOPS:):):):)
KB G6 12-06-2009, 04:17 PM He also has other mods other than a tune.
Intake, MPD hood, Exhaust, PLUS the tune.
Also, a little correction, if you add 9 HP you'll get 233 at the crank, not at the wheels. You lose about 15-18% through the tranny.
And I have an 05 and never dyno'd it. ;)
SexyG6 12-06-2009, 07:42 PM i head the 08+ was derated in HP b/c of the third cat under the car, that the earlier models lacked. i removed my 3rd cat when i put on my gtr lol.
paramount 12-06-2009, 07:58 PM KB G6,
Lampoon dynoed his at 159 at the wheels, ended up with 205 at the wheels, so about a 45 hp increase at the wheels. At the crank he got 200, and after about 250ish. So at the wheels he got +5 more horsepower at the wheels than he did originally at he crank.
So I guess I can +5 to my crank value and get about what I would get at the wheels after a dyno tune. I thought that the tune he bought is reset when they dyno it because thats what a dyno does is program the ecu and tcm right? So the info on the tune would be different. Oh and I have the same mods as Lampoon except for the hood, cant have a functional ram air hood where I live because of the snow.
KB G6 12-07-2009, 05:09 AM Oh okay, didn't know you had the whole mod package. I got a little confused in the other post. If Lampoon got 250 at the crank you should theoretically get approximately 270 if you get the tune.
But then again theory only works if everything goes right.:D
Droptop Diamond 12-07-2009, 05:26 AM I'm thoroughly confused by many aspects of this thread, but perhaps most by this:
cant have a functional ram air hood where I live because of the snow.
:confused::confused::confused:
On second thought, paramount's switching back and forth between crank & wheel #'s, adding of wheel hp to crank hp and best of all suddenly claimed mods, override even that statement above
KB G6 12-07-2009, 01:17 PM Exactly why I was so confused. I'm glad that it's not just me going crazy.
paramount 12-07-2009, 06:44 PM Sorry for all of the confusion. I do have an exhaust and a cold air intake, my friends that work in modding up cars hooked me up a while ago, didn't seem so important to define myself on the sites with my mods. They have a civic and a tiburon, which are like the most popular mod cars. If I got a functional ram air hood than snow would fill up the engine bay which is not a good thing.
HOpe this helps.:D
paramount 12-08-2009, 04:07 PM Hello????
paramount 12-10-2009, 05:17 PM Is this thread going to die??? :( I dont want it to, its just too soon!!
Anyone else on this site dyno there G6? I was especially wondering about the 07 GT because it has the most stock horspower. (MUAHHAHAHAHA YOU OTHER YEAR G6 OWNERS)!!!
What do you guys think about remote mount turbos?? I checked another thread and this natedog dude don't like em. My friend Tom got an STS remote mount system on his stang and its really nice. STS boasts more hp per lbs of boost than any other turbo, remote mount or otherwise.
Droptop Diamond 12-10-2009, 11:43 PM I'll gladly keep it going -
1. Why is the reason you want to know what other 07's have dynoed because they have the most stock hp? I can see wanting to know what others got (both your own year plus other years) but I can't figure what your year having the most hp has to do with why you want to know their #'s in particular.
2. I don't think the STS would work out for you - too much snow
markpetersonii 12-11-2009, 12:49 AM Sorry, I wish I could help. I would also like to know though, maybe someone out there knows.
paramount 12-11-2009, 02:06 PM :)Seriously Droptop D, if you have a ram air hood, where air from the outside goes right into your engine bay, and there is snow in the air or I leave my car out during freezing rain, snow and ice would build up in the engine bay which is NOT A GOOD THING.
Seriously though what do you think of remote mounters, and no I dont want one, I could get a universal one though, anyway what do y'all think of em??
I am just poking fun with the whole year thing, and since the engine configurements are slighlty different, like the 05 and 06 dont have vvt and the 07 does, so it would be interesting to find out the results after tuning.:)
Syris 12-16-2009, 09:21 PM KB G6,

A dyno doesn't "tune" your car. It just registers how much power is made to the wheels and scales it on a graph to make it easier to "tune"
KB G6 12-17-2009, 09:01 AM I think he knows what the dyno is for but a dyno tune is a real tune that, using a dyno to see the effect, they mess around with the engine to see how much more power they can get out of it. Though I'm not quite sure what they do.
paramount 12-17-2009, 05:21 PM Yah I was talking about a dyno tune...I dont know what they do with a dyno tune either...I know they remap fuel and delete the speed limiter, but what else do they do and how??? ANYONE KNOW???:D
GRAFXG6 12-17-2009, 07:34 PM all i know that my 07 is faster than a 09 gt lol
guy was starring me down yesterday at a light and i beat him by a whole car
hey he said the 07 had more power:D:D:D
paramount 12-20-2009, 08:34 AM I am almost certain that dyno tuning is going go give you more power than a tune would. I am just hoping that the power I get is worth it, cause dyno tuning is expensive so I could just instead get a turbo for the six. The dyno place and my dealership said they found a turbo for the GT G6 that would be very compatible (I think a modified sts turbo) and that the dyno place could both install and tune the car. SWEET. to bad the estimate comes to 6,000 dollars:mad:. But just dyno alone??? Is it worth it??
Fuzz12285 12-27-2009, 01:38 AM all i know that my 07 is faster than a 09 gt lol

hey he said the 07 had more power:D:D:D
how so? there are too many variables to just be able to beat ONE guy and say that your car is faster(even if he says that it is) just because its an 07...your sig even says that you've got CRABS on your car...so your car is modified...was his car modified in any way? were your reaction times exactly the same? hell no. were you shifting at the exact same rpm as him? even if you both have auto tranny's, they were shifting at different rpm's. a reaction time of half a second can make all the difference in the world....
GRAFXG6 12-27-2009, 10:03 AM dude you must have an 09 and no sense of humor.i guess the :D:D:D didn't give it away, thought it was appropriate since everyone was going at it about this darn dyno.well i did like your explanation to the whole thing haha.:bash:
paramount 12-27-2009, 01:17 PM You pick up about 10 additional HP at the wheels from tuning.
The new GM’s with FWD seem to be driving the WOT timing tables high enough to push into the knock sensors.
We have to lower the timing to stop them from bouncing off the knock sensors. When we do this it helps make more bottom end torque but the high HP gains are minimal.
It seems safer from a tuning perspective but it surely is not impressive from a dyno number.
We actually had a car go to the track after tuning and have us remove the tune because it went slower.
GM knows something about using the knock sensor to limit timing and it appears to work
THis is what I got from a dyno place. Really only ten horsepower and make the car slower?? Lampoon, reaching out to you. You got a dyno tune and got and extra 35 ish horsepower, so what is going on here???
paramount 12-28-2009, 05:38 PM Hello? I would love for some with experience with dyno tuning like Lampoon or GTPrix to respond to the last post. :)
Lampoon 12-29-2009, 04:47 PM Ray got his car dyno tuned by CHris. Since our cars were the exact same (even the color) I bought the same tune he had made from Chris. Soooo....I do and I dont have a dyno tune. I got more than 10....
My Mustang got a caned tune with my intake and makes ~35 more. Dont knock the "canned" tunes. They were made on a dyno....just make sure the application is the same.
You knocking issues are one of the reasons I recommend getting a tune from the 3 places with proven results. I am not a HP Tuner. I dont have the software or know how. I just know people who have tunes from them with no issues.
Chris can answer your questions but hes not big on getting involved with people who have issues with tunes purchased elsewhere.... Prolly why your not getting a resonse from him here. I dont wonder into tune threads much. All I can do is make recommendations based upon what I have seen and heard and know through experience and for some strange reason people take issue with that when it comes to tunes.
I wish you luck.
paramount 12-29-2009, 04:58 PM Thanks a ton for the input Lampoon. Its really helpful. I am going to contact Chris and see if he has a copy of a tune of my model year. :D
Again thanks a bunch! :D
mjgonegm 12-30-2009, 12:26 AM As Far as the knocking try some 93 octane and see if that stops....
Also
Do you live in an high altitude area?
Did you buy the car used?
What all has been done to it?

Speaking of the mustang.... How you like those new 5.0's? LOL
paramount 12-30-2009, 06:29 PM Yeah I am getting the dyno tune replaced by a tune from Chris if I can. Hopefully he has a copy of a tune for my year and model. That would be awsome.
paramount 12-30-2009, 06:32 PM Hey Lampoon now that I am planning on getting a tune from chris, do you think he will Reply here? I am really hoping to talk to him more about it.
