My 3.9 requires 4 qt.s, I would think your 3.6 would be the same. Call a parts store if still unsure.

Turns out its 5.5 quarts including filter. found it in the back of the manual where it lists all fluid capacities

My 3.6 barely uses more than 5 quarts when I change it, and I am what some call 'anal' about my car. I am always fine when I go into AutoZone and get the oil change special for full synthetic which gets me 5 qt and a good filter for $26. I just have a single qt bottle on hand if it needs some but I have never needed it.

Amsoil states 5.5 quarts, and they're normally right on the mark, but that's to FULL capacity. As ralthoff mentioned, if you use just over 5 quarts you should be in between the minimum and full marks on the dipstick, which is where the oil level should be unless your 3.6 consumes oil throughout an oil change, then it's best to put more in from the get go.
