It is time for my 2005 G6 GT to go in the shop for a coolant system flush. The AC Delco garage told me the current Dexcool would be replaced with another type of coolant. Has anyone switched their G6 over to another type of coolant?
Thanks.

You are due if you have an 05 based on the dexcool scheduled maintenance of 100,000 miles or 5 years, but I would do it sooner unless you like having gaskets fail or other issues. I had my 06 GTP's dexcool flushed out @ 60k to something else, think it was prestone's global coolant. Just have to be sure what ever goes in is the stuff designed for the new cars with aluminum engine componets ( the old green coolant does not work in them, and will become very corrosive because of the chemical reaction it has when it interacts with aluminum). You can only being doing good by having if flushed more often then the 100K 5yrs.

I've had the low coolant light come on recently so i added a splash of water. I noticed a bunch of burnt-orange colored stuff in the reservoir. Is it time for a flush? im only at 44k miles...

I flushed the dexcool out of my GXP at 180 miles as soon as i brought it home from the dealer....dexcool is terible for an engine when i had to replace the headgaskets on my 08 GT at 89k miles the coolant passages were probably 60% clogged with dexcool sludge like substance

Dexcool only sludges when there is a leak....it doesnt like to come in contact with air. Get it flushed at 5 years or 100k with Dexcool....OR when you have to have a coolant system repair done.
