: Cold Air Intake
ltexacidrain 05-30-2010, 06:59 PM Hey all, I'm looking to get to work on my G6 this summer. First thing I want to do is a cold air intake. I don't have all that much money, so it needs to be relatively inexpensive, but of course I don't want a cheap part on my car.
So, what is everyones opinion? Some say a cold air intake is pointless, what does everyone think? This is my first step into modding my car, so I want to make sure I start things off on the right foot!
Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated! :)
Reg Beckett 05-30-2010, 07:40 PM I installed CRABs,it works great,looks great,sounds great.The price was very resonable.
KBacon07 05-30-2010, 08:43 PM If your looking for something a bit cheaper you could try a K&N drop in filter. It should give you noticeable results but not break the bank.
Lampoon 05-31-2010, 04:13 AM Welcome!!
What year & model/color is your G6??
mj23polaris 05-31-2010, 06:12 PM prob just get like a spectre drop in filter for like 30$ at advanced auto, thinkin about goin and gettin one tomorrow....
ltexacidrain 05-31-2010, 10:06 PM I've got a 2007 base G6.. So, unfortunately, I've got a 4-cyl, but I'm trying to do the best with what I've got! My parents bought the car while I was away at college so I had no say in the matter (not that i'm really upset about it). So I'm not too sure how to explain the color, it's a blue-ish silver. Kinda depends on how the light hits it, I'm not sure how the window tag/Pontiac described it, I haven't had a chance to look.
I just really want to get a cold air that's going to work. Some people have said it'll boost HP, some have said it boosts MPG. Either of those true? I just want my car to sound meaner than it does now. The 4-cyl is just so pathetically weak :/
waterfowler76 06-01-2010, 07:26 AM Well the problem is that you have a 4cyl. a CAI will give you a little more hp and a little better mpg but since you have the 4cyl once you put on a CAI you will get a check engine light. you have to get your computer tuned for it to run properly with a CAI.
sfdevine7 06-01-2010, 11:55 AM nice a jersey girl lol. but the problem is that you have the 4cyl, so without a tune i think the most you can do is a new filter. and if you wanted the whole system, the tune would be very expensive.
aries0412001 06-01-2010, 05:20 PM Hi i put a K&N panel filter in my car which also has the 2.4 l ecotec i didn't notice any real difference in performance but it helps to save money on air filters i have not seen any cold air intakes for 2.4 ecotec in a G6 but i have seen them for chevy cobalt ss it looks like it will fit but not sure but good luck
ltexacidrain 06-01-2010, 09:17 PM Well, a friend of mine is going to school for car work and he'd probably be able to tune up the engine if need be. Would that be a big job? Also, my car is still under the warranty, is a CAI going to void the warranty? (It's mainly my parents who care, haha)
waterfowler76 06-01-2010, 11:01 PM a tune up wont do it. what needs to be done is your computer will have to be basically reprogramed to operate with the intake. you can look into Vector (http://www.vectormotorsports.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=11&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28) or WAMS (http://http://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/)(hes only open weekends to keep up with demand)
mattness7 10-26-2011, 06:23 PM Hey all all the check engine lights scarred me away from doing a cold air intake so i decided to just get a normal Ram air intake, i was wondering if someone could take a look at this and let me know what they think, my friend said there basically all the same, I have the 2.4L so not many companys actually make stuff for it and its really cheap

Let me know thanks a lot
Swampassjr 11-01-2011, 10:55 AM After installing my CAI i noticed a little difference in mid-range (could just be in my head though haha). One thing i really liked was the difference in the sound it made coming from the engine. Sounds awesome!
stilover01 12-12-2011, 05:06 PM So I have a 06 base 3.5 and I was looking at the crab intake and was just wondering about pros and cons?? And I was looking at op 3? So if someone could point me in the right direction.
Firedown 12-12-2011, 07:07 PM pros: best intake out there.
cons: it's not free
Get option 3, pick up a fpu if you want as well.

Ditto. I got my crabs and noticed quite a difference in acceleration. Don't have any numbers to prove it, but I can tell the engine doesnt work as hard.
Lampoon will hook you up!:glasses:
stilover01 12-12-2011, 07:34 PM Did any CEL come on? And I think just for now I will stick with op 3 then in a few months get the hole thing

Nope. I have the 3.6 DOHC VVT, op 3 with fpu.

Did you ever purchase this intake? How did it work? Was the install straight forward? This is a great deal, just wondering if you, or anyone else, took the plunge. I have an 07 w/2.4 I bought used this weekend. Love it so far!
