: Dual Exhaust vs. Single

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question, I was reading online today that a single exhaust will give you more HP and Torque than a Dual Exhuast. Is that true? I like the look of the dual exhaust but i don't really want to give up HP and Torque. Not that I want to race or something but I don't want to give up power.

Thanks! :D

Most the people on this forum have dual tips with single muffler. So there basically allowing a more free flowing stock setup.
I think what your refering to is adding True Dual from the exhaust manifold. Wish depending you engine and tune could loose some low end torque.. But sometimes you gain HP.
It really depends on Your engine.

I want to do the single muffler to dual tips. I'm in canada so getting the GTR here would be a wee bit pricey ha

The G6 dual exhaust system shares a common resonator, exhaust pipe, & muffler, therefore is not a true dual exhaust system.
The only thing different I can think of is a drop in back pressure from a less restrictive system design, but that usually a good thing.

i recently got the dual exhaust installed (picture above) the only difference i see is i'm getting better highway gas mileage. the HP is the same if not a slight better.

I think the reason they say that is because yours came with a single exhaust outlet vs. the dual. but its a cat back so I dont think youd have a problem with it fitting. just need the rear valance.

i stand corrected, i actually had mine custom made at meineke muffler. they used a camaro muffler with buffers. it has a little sound to it just enough to be noticed. not so much like a magna flow muffler. i leave for work at 5am so i don't want to wake up the neighborhood. i should post some new pics up soon. have lowered my car and put black overlays over the darts.

check around to see if you can get it custom made at any muffler shop. mine is custom with dual tips with a single muffler.

your best bet is to go to any muffler shop and ask their opinion. at first someone suggested a flowmaster muffler. sounded to mean for a sports compact like the G6. then had it swapped out with the one i got now. i actually like it. the sound is there but not to much. i dont think a video will do any justice for it.

Yeah i don't want anything at is going to sound too loud but something noticeable enough that when I accelerate there is a nice smooth sound:cool:

Does anyone know if the GTR exhaust would void the powertrain warranty

Does anyone know if the GTR exhaust would void the powertrain warranty

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))
This federal law regulates warranties for the protection of consumers.

The law states the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty.

It appears that installing aftermarket parts will not in itself void your warranty.

true duals on a v6 unless highly modded would kill power. after the muffler its just looks. i added the dual valance to mine and a custom borla setup which is who makes gm's exhaust also.

i have video here and pics will be up once i get back under the car. it y's after the rear suspension to two borla pro xs's and 4" tips

Thanks for the consideration of not waking the neighbors! It's one thing for a nice sound, and it's another for an annoyingly loud one! My mom works third shift and has always hated the neighbors because occasionally he starts up his drag race car or he takes his Chevelle for a ride- both very loud cars.

thanks. i just hate it when i can hear a car a 1/2 mile away late at night especially when i have to wake up at 5am for work.
