: Duh....
Ralphy 12-06-2005, 11:56 AM I just have to say that the "ice possible" message that appears on the radio when it is cold is ridiculous. It never got to me until today when I was shivering because it was only 10 degrees (-12 for all you Canadians) out this morning. Then I have to see an "ice possible" message? Holy crap, really???? Talk about some useless information.
Does anyone else find this information useful?
Subtle_Cynicism 12-06-2005, 12:21 PM I think it's silly, yes, but do you know if it factors in other conditions (such as traction) into that reading? Perhaps if the traction is iffy, the message has a higher rate of coming up in the cold weather. I don't know, as I don't own a G6, but I think those message centers are nifty either way, and while it may not be useful, it's fun on the eyes.
Ralphy 12-06-2005, 12:24 PM I'm sure the message center is just programmed to display the message if the outside temp is below 32 degrees.
golf_n_motorcycles 12-06-2005, 12:31 PM I don't have the traction control on my G but I still get the message when it nears or is below 32 outside. My buddies think it's a neat feature, but yes, I agree, it's not worth much to me. I know when ice is possible.
When I will be impressed, however, is when the display reads "migraine headaches ahead" as I approach the parking lot at work, and "cold beer ahead" as I pull in my driveway every afternoon :D

My last car had this feature and would ding! Don't you have the remote starter with your car? Best $50 option in the auto industry!!!
GTPGuy82 12-06-2005, 07:07 PM The other day my info center said "STABIL NOT READY" and the yellow symbol indicating Stabiltrak was off was lit up. After a few minutes of driving the message went away.

actually the message appears to be triggered around 35°-36°...

seemed useless to me until you think of a scenario in that you may be traveling for an extended period of time and not realize a DROP in outside temp. only THEN can i think that this message could be some help, especially if you are passing over any bridges.
but then again, how many of us drive and constantly check the display? guess you might notice it if you were changing radio stations, but on a long trip, i use my XM Radio so i DON'T have to keep changing stations.
GM Engineering, doesn't get any better.......

I know what you mean, but my brothers pathfinder and my dad 4 runner both do the same thing. Its pretty standerd.
I think it would be better if the radio would flash "Stupid drivers talking on cell phones ahead" or "Check out the blonde in the red convertable"...
"Open the pod bay doors, Hal..." "I can't do that, Dave..."
Fusion 12-07-2005, 02:51 PM It would be cool if it actually displayed the weather forcast.
Blackrider 12-09-2005, 11:53 PM Wow, Its like every other "DIS" type system arround
vette79 12-10-2005, 02:50 AM Looking to all the acidents that happens when there is a snowfall, all cars sholud give this message because there seem to be a lot of drivers that don't know it is slippery when it's freezingggggg outside.. . . . . . . .
Robyn P 12-10-2005, 09:36 AM Mine used to tell me "possibly ice", it did when I first got it in March, but yesterday it was 20 degrees outside and nothing came up about ice, even though I had ice patches in the drive way, so give it time, it probably stop telling you. It is a common sense thing, but when the temp drops while you're driving, if something comes up on the screen it always catches my attention, when I may not have notice the temp changing.
It is a common sense thing
Unfortunately, common sense ain't nearly as common as it ought to be.

Yep, good reasoning. How about coming out into a parking garage and leaving? Many times you can't tell how cold it really is (38 degrees or 32 degrees) and many people do not drive with the DIC showing the temperature. So nice message that says "ice possible" could make your drive home a little better.
Or like you said, driving home at night, if temps drop from 35 degrees to 33 degrees (can even happen during a 20 minute drive) and can totally change the road surface especially if it's wet.
Seems redundant, but there are many scenarios when it's effective.

Mine displays the temp all the time, can you really turn it off?

if i could do ANYTHING with the outside temp, i would turn it 'UP', not 'OFF'...
.....ha ha :D
