Hello everyone,

I searched before hand and I could not find a previous thread that tied in this topic. So here is my question. I need new brakes and I'm looking for a little more performance out of them. I have heard of Hawk's pads and stuff but what should I get? Ceramic, Metallic brake wise ? Cross Drilled and slotted, or factory ? Ebay sells some no-name "performance pads and rotors" but has anyone tested them out? I have also heard of a Brembo Kit but I can't find one on Brembo 's website. Answers are much appreciated ! :bigear:

Trust me... I've researched this topic for countless hours and there is a tonne of threads. Google is your friend and alot of threads link back here or the other site G6P.

Just a couple names, R1 Cquence, etc. Drilled rotors are what you want.

Search!

I got a set of front brakes from G force brakes here in canada off ebay and they have been great so far.... Just as good as my last r1concept set but cheaper.

Nice, good to know. I figure once my brakes need done I may as well get a nice set of 18's to show off the new rotors :)

A lot of the Ebay brake parts seem to be decent quality, Try there if you need brakes on the cheap

Is it truly hard to find a pair of front and rear rotors that does not rust after it rains? I bought many kinds of slotted & drilled rotors but they look like crap because of the rusting. Any ideas? I am not sure if such a part exists but would be wishful thinking.

Not really. It's just nature of the beast. The brakemotive brand of rotors and brakes over on eBay are the best bang for the buck. Quality is pretty good for a good price.

This is the absolute BEST brake set-up for most G6's! I have had this brake set-up for 6 months now and it took me about that long to research and save for the upgrade. I have a 2007 GT coupe w/ 3.9L engine w/ optional 18" stock Pontiac rims.

Here are the details: You can bolt on BREMBO front calipers that come from Cobalt SS/TC with little mechanical skill. But now your stock front rotors are the wrong dimension so search for Cobalt SS/TC front rotors. I went with EBC vented, dimpled and slotted Sport Rotors. These are absolutely the highest quality and you'll pay for them too. I equipped these calipers with the appropriate BREMBO brake pads but you could also search for other pad options as long as you are searching for Cobalt SS/TC front pads (I might try EBC Red Stuff next time). Some wheels will not clear these larger calipers, so I had to buy Eibach 5mm hub-centric wheel spacers. It seems that 5mm is the minimum and DO NOT skimp on the quality of the wheel spacers, if you do and they are off balance you could have major alignment/vibration problems, I also don't recommend using too wide of a wheel spacer this can put unnecessary stress on your lugs and also throw off the alignment. I have not found any rear caliper up-grades. In the rear I just suggest choosing the highest quality brake pad and replacing the rotors. I chose to match the front rotors and install EBC Sport dimpled and slotted rotors, obviously here you'd want to search for appropriate G6 rear rotor.

I have posted the GM Parts Direct part numbers as of Sept. 20011 when I completed the upgrade
GM Part No.
Cobalt Front BREMBO caliper 25900763
Cobalt Front BREMBO caliper 25900764
You'll need one of each: one is Right and the other is Left I just forget which one is which
BREMBO Front Brake Pad Kit 25808929
This will include 4 pads, two for each front wheel
Pin Kit (MUST USE THIS) 25900781
You must order two of these (one for each caliper) this will hold the pads into your new capilers

Do the calipers mount right onto the stock G6 mount? Or is a new caliper mount needed?

The Brembo calipers mounted right on to the stock G6 mount. I am not very mechanically inclined but I was able to install these one afternoon. Bleeding the breaks was the most frustrating process. These calipers look and perform great!!! Here's a pic of the caliper guide pin assembly.

So the Rotors just bolt right on?

Yes, the calipers just bolted on. I put on the EBC Sport Rotors GD7507. I wasn't excited about the price, you're doing good if you can find them for under $490. I rationalized the purchase because they are very high quality and I am almost certain I'll never have to replace them. If you buy a 200$ pair but you have to repeat that purchase in 5 years you should have just bought the better ones in the first place. They look great, very light wear and completely even, absolutely no signs of warping, no vibrations or shimmy, and they really bite!

Yes, the rotors just bolt on too. I have stock 18" wheels so I had to buy a 5mm wheel spacer (in picture above) to provide more room for the bigger calipers, but you MIGHT have enough clearance for the larger brakes because of your aftermarket wheels.

You'd be right. I just searched eBay and there were only 2 sets on there. One for $475 and one for $500. Very expensive brake upgrade. Deff looking at a bit over a grand with the brembos completed. But worth it if you can afford it. :D ill do it one day lol
