: GM is buying my car back!!!

After a long drawn out battle over the steering lock up. GM has made an offer to buy back my G6 for what I paid for it. Which was $26,790.00. So now I have to go to the dealership and pick out another GM product. Any ideas?? Should I get a GTP?

Congratulations!! May as well go for something better, with the red tag sale and all. I'd personally go for a Grand Prix, Bonneville, or a GTP G6. Just my thoughts, but go with your instinct! Good Luck!! :)

Here's what you need to think about:

Was the G6 big enough for you? Did you enjoy the car enough when it wasn't giving you problems?

Also, are you willing to sacrifice gas milage, as the GTP doesn't get as good of gas, no matter how you look at it.

I know you had a rough time with GM, but I think you should give them another shot.

i concur!

all excellent things to consider! if you can live with the gas mileage, and can afford it, get the GTP!!!

It seems the 06 is a little cleaner than the 05 models.

I honestly think with cars its hit or miss; you get a lemon or you don't.

gratz, yeah as mentioned in previous posts the big thing is how did the G6 fit in with your life and what you wanted it for. I had traded an 04 GP GTP for my G6, I really liked that car but mileage was bad, had to use premium because of the supercharger and the payments were killing me. When I traded I had to get an extra year on financing but I made the right choice because of all the costs involved. Coincidentally the G6 sedan has about as much interior room as the GP, the overall length of the Prix is where they don't compare.

Honestly after looking at the G6 coupes I wish I had waited a couple more months and tried to trade on one of them, but the Prix was killing me so I HAD to trade when I did. I've been a Pontiac guy most of my life but I kind of like the look of the Chevrolet HHR as well-- but nah, gimme another Pontiac. Don't be afraid if you like the brand, I also had owned an 85 Fiero  but I came back to Pontiac again once I decided to trade that lemon. ( it would just die for no reason while driving down the interstate ) they never did figure that one out either.

Guess you didn't need a cliff after all. I'm glad to see GM taking care of their customers. I'd get a G6 GTP, GTO, or Solstice - all with a manual transmission!

COOL BEANS, CARISSA!!!! :glasses3:

if i were in YOUR shoes, first i would get bigger shoes (i doubt you and i wear the same size and my feet would be hurting from all the walking of lots looking for 'Mr Goodcar'!!!) and second i would pick me out the sweetest 2006 GTP 6sp i could find. i prefer the sedan myself because i'm an old fart and unfortunately practical. but if the COUPE can fill your needs, then go for it!!!

a word of advice; stay away from the Panaramic Roof.......you've seen the posts on these, right? just stick with the regular power moonroof. i have had NO POBLEMS with mine (knock on wood!!) and i would strongly recommend the heated leather seats. primo!!! i just ran this exact same senario on my local dealers 'build me a pontiac' thing and with the 'red tag' discount it came in UNDER $24K!!! thats $4k LESS than my '05 GT listed for!

again, just my thought on what "I" would do.......

kevin

p.s. great job, carissa!!!! i;m very proud of you and the way you handled a really BAD situation. hey, the little guy CAN win! :D

Awesome!! Remind me not to race you! :bolt: Be careful with that torque steer, I can only imagine what it would be like on a GP GXP. I've almost 'lost' the GTP a couple times taking off with the wheels turned.

That is great, I'm very glad you didn't get in to them. What color is it? Pics!! Now. :D

I have been keeping up with reading the posts, i own a 2005 GT and i wrecked it today. I need some advice on what to do now, i was leaving work when my wheel locked up in the middle of a turn, needless to say my car is now sitting on three wheels. the top control arm snapped right off along with the axle and brake line. I need some advice on what to do, i definetly do not wanna drive this death trap anymore. Who know what might have happened if i was going faster, i was only going 5mph. The fender was sitting on the tire, it caused damage to the fender, hood, pillar, and my door won't open, please help guys. Thanks in advance.

WELL, HERE WE GO!!! it was only a matter of time until someone else actually damaged their car. glad you were only going 5MPH when it happened and that you are 'ok'!!! have you experienced this before or is this a 'first time' for you?

obviously, your first call should have been to your Insurance Agent or Company. their priority should be to get you back on the road again as quickly as possible. also, get a copy of the Police Report. may come in handy later.

as for your first step in getting some assistance from GM, i would start the complaint process with a call to the Pontiac Customer Assistance Center (800-762-2737/M-F 8A-11P EST) and get it on record. they will open a file and provide you with a case number. after that, its up to you; Attorney? Better Business Bureau? apparently the BBB is the way to go, as it certainly worked out in Carissa's favor.

good luck and keep us posted!!!!!

The first thing i did was hit my onstar button, i explaned to them my wheel was locked and they set me up with a tow truck. They took the car to a pontiac dealership and that is where the car is sitting now, they told me service would not be in until tuesday, the manager that was there was clueless on what to do. What should i do now, I live in Illinois, what process do i have to follow to file a complaint, i never had problems on it locking up, aor at least none i ever noticed. I did hower have problems with it getting ridiculously soft and then going back to normal.

Carissa249

You need to go to the Better Business Bureau website and file a complaint for a lemon. Also find the website to your attorney general and file a complaint there. Call customer assistance at Pontiac and file a complaint to start a record. I am in one heck of a battle myself right now. i finally got GM to buy mine back but they are refusing to reimburse me for 9 car payments at 490.73/month. Just keep on them. Thats the best advice I can give you. Dont take the extended warranty offers or free oil changes. They offer that just to make you go away. Keep asking for supervisors, send emails...send letters. You name it! Mention that you know of others with this problem and point them to this website. But dont give up!!! Be a thorn in their side. Yell if you have to but not until you need to. Threaten to get in a class action lawsuit. Mention my name, Carissa Shaffer. Trust me, they will probably cringe when you say my name!! But what ever you do DONT GIVE UP!!!!! Let me know if you need anything!

yes. please...post some pics.

also, if you have the time, post a 'detailed description' of what transpired from the time you started your car until after you contacted 'On-Star'. also, please post your VIN (last 8 digits only) and the number of miles on your car.

all this info may benefit someone else down the road. we're all behind you and if you need any 'confirmation' of this occurance, as Carissa said, point them in the direction of this website.

please, keep us updated. again, good luck.

I was leaving work early for the holiday (or so i thought) i started my car, drove off, everything was normal. I got about a block when i came to a left turn, all of a sudden half-way thru the turn my wheel locked, i looked down, hit the brakes in shock and hear a loud pop. My steering wheel was no longer moving, i hear some grinding and look around, i was in the middle of the street, my cars wasn't going anywhere. I get out to see the right fender was sitting on my wheel, i tried to open the passenger door and it was stuck. I went back in my car called a friend and then tried onstar, my free year was up so she made me subscribe before she would help. I told her about my wheel locking and that my car was no longer moving. She called a tow truck and when they arrived he had to go back to get a jack. He came back, as soon as he got jacked the car the entire wheel fell right off. He was unable to put it on the truck so he had to do it from the rear. The car was sitting on the rim being draggeg onto the bed. I took it to the dealer but they were clueless on what to do, i dropped off my keys and left. As soon as i got home i posted on the forum.

Boy Howdy...! Thankfully you ARE alright! Given that this happened in the middle of the street, many variables could have happened & thankfully did not. :) I have also been silently watching ALL these posts about the steering lockup from the shadows of the forum. I too think it would be of help to let the rest of us know how much mileage you had on your G6 at the time of the accident. To me, it does appear that there is some kind of pattern with most of the lock up problems coming from the mid-west area. I bought my G6-GT in March here in TX. I have only minimal miles on it (~4018) & have suffered NO ill effects with it thus far. Though I was hopeful that Carissa's occurance was not to be repeated, I am very weary of your incident. [Carissa, you go girl!]

Was anyone else in the car with you? What can I say about OnStar... cheap s-o-bs!! Help first (one would think)

As for me - not that it matters now, but if GM gave me the cost I paid in return for a product that I was dissatisfied with, I would've steered clear of Pontiac altogether & probably have gone to Buick.

As others have already said, please keep us in your loop, pal. :)

Not a professional but on Twisted Heat's pictures, it appears the upper control arm (UCA) snapped.

Without searching through old posts, it seems I recall reading that someone else's lockup problems were unsuccessfully attempted to be repaired by replacing UCAs.

I guess I'm missing a piece here. Please bear with me.

In Twisted's case, the UCA probably broke first which removed steering ability. If I have been understanding correctly, this is NOT the same as the occasional lockup others have experienced. In other words, I'm thinking the broken UCA is the source of his/her lockup. This is not the sort of thing that will occur for a few seconds and then go away such as Carissa was enduring.

I think this is two different things. If someone can explain the error in my thinking, I'm open to hear it.

actually, my guess is that the 'knuckle' is what snapped, right where the wheel hub and bearing mount. kind of an odd thing to break, but it does look like alluminum or some sort of alloy, so it wouldn't tend to just bend like good old steel would.

did you hit anything or did this just occur and you stopped in the middle of the street? if you hit NOTHING, then this would have to be a defective steering knuckle and as was mentioned above, would be a completely different situation from that of Carissas and others like myself who have experienced a 2-3 second TEMPORARY 'lock-up'.

GREAT!! just one more thing i have to be concerned with!!!! :dogpile:

If ya'll remember, Im the one that had my control arms replaced on the first attempt to correct my steering lock up. Unfortunately that didnt correct the problem. BUT i know there was a TSB for stiff steering in which they replace the control arms. I wonder if this is what happens if you dont have them replaced. Im scared ****less now. Im still driving my deathtrap until GM gets mine replaced...makes me want to just park it and say the heck with going to work!!!

Just when I thought I was safe....

Well my friends...GM SUCKS! Ha! Well I picked out the car I wanted...Dark Cherry Grand Prix GXP...loaded....beautyFULL! I called GM and told them I found the car and they said....NOPE!!!! I didnt find it at the teeny weeny dealership I bought my G6 at originally there for I couldnt get the GXP unless they dealer traded. Well go figure that the dealership wont dealer trade with my original dealership. So I told GM to buy back my G6 and I didnt want another POS from them. They said OK! BUT! I had to pay them another 4000.00 for usage on my G6. After flying thru the roof and reaming the customer assitance lady...I decided this nightmare needs to end and I pinched myself! As badly as I want to tell GM to take a leap...I need a car that wont kill me. So I picked out a G6 GTP (to atleast get me away from the steering issue)....I wont know for sure if this is the route Im going to go until i get the settlement paperwork from GM. The MSRP on the GTP is the same at my GT was so they got their way. If they try to jack my payment up or extend my loan Im going to freak. My lil friends at the attorney generals office of Ohio is sneaking up on GM while all of this is going on. I wont hear anything from them until Tuesday. GM isnt following the regulations of the Ohio Lemon Law...naughty naughty! SO Ill keep ya'll updated!

shame, shame on you, GM!!! :bash:

its about time you're put in the corner and given a 'time out' and Carissa is just the one to do it! kudos to the State of Ohio!!!

let us know how this pans out.........are you still driving your G6 until they settle? i think if this drags out past Tuesday, i would demand that they put you in a rental until GM makes up their mind on what they will allow you to do, or until Ohio steps in and TELLS them what they will do.

While its true that the original selling dealer is the one that has to bear whatever burden on the sale, since the corporate entity is admiting the problem and is willing to "make good" by replacing the car, it should be replaced with one that the customer wants instead of "whatever is on OUR (the selling dealer) lot. GM needs to step up whether they are following with what the law provides or not. Give the customer the car she desires-- OR -- full replacement value. I don't pretend to know what is legally binding and what isn't, it just makes good sense that GM would "do the right thing" and not drag the dealer into a situation "just because THEY sold the car" -- The dealer sure didn't build it!

i agree with Bob G....i can understand why the dealer that has the GXP wouldn't want to 'dealer trade it' because they want the sale. and as for Carissa's dealer, well they may not be going the 'extra mile' to make her happy since they have probably figured she will not be back anyway. so, this is where 'big brother', GM, needs to step in and say to dealer #1, 'Dealer trade this car and we will help you out with allocation of others in the future' and then tell dealer #2 'Since your service department has basically called this woman a liar and treated her as such, if you DON'T dealer trade for this GXP, you'll recieve nothing but WHITE cars for the entire 2006 year!" trust me, been there and seen that!! it HAS been done!!!

After 2 snow banks, one landscaping and one close call with a telephone pole, i called my dealership and told them I cant drive this car anymore while waiting. The GM of the dealership got the ok from the area Pontiac Rep to put me in a rental until this mess is cleared up and straightened out with the repurchase. I got my oil changed and tires rotated today, and theres a new bulletin out to check the AC and heater. i didnt read it fully. i remember from the summer, when i turn on the AC, that it made a loud noise. i shouldve had them check it out. and when i let off my brakes if im at a stop light, my whole car makes this like... creaking noise.. is that normal guys? I have no idea?
