Dealership will have to scan it. Its truly hard to say without having the OBDII code.

Filled up latly?

a commen cause is the filler cap not being on tight enough.

But if it is due to that problem you would get a "Check Gas Cap" message in DIC because the fuel system would be detecting a massive "leak" so it is likely not that unless Slickdesi is getting that warning message as well.

Thats the first thing i checked, gas cap, and it was well fit. And today i took it to the dealership and they said its some sort of code problem and they dont "have a solution for it." Dealership just re-sets all the codes and tells me to come back again when the engine light comes up.

didnt even kow the "Check gas cap" was a message.Yes, if it were the problem you would get that message prior to actually seeing a Check Engine Light. Reason for it is to try to save the owner the time of taking vehicle to the dealer for a check engine light because they didn't tighten the gas cap properly

The engine lite on my 06 GTP coupe came on after about two weeks ( 1500 miles ) while driving to work on the turnpike. It turned out to be a bad oxygen sensor, which the dealer replaced, although it had to be ordered. They reset the light and told me to just drive it until the part came in. Other than additional smog into the air, it ran fine until changed. Haven't had any other problems ( 5800 miles now ).

If you've driven the car much over 3000 miles you may want to change that oil. Not the cause of your problem most likely, but I'd do it.

Just wait for the oil life monitor to tell you when to change it. Don't use the outdated "3 month / 3,000 mile" old wives tale.

Speaking of "oil light". What are the factors considered, mileage RPMs, engine temp. ...etc. when the Change Oil message appears?

Speaking of "oil light". What are the factors considered, mileage RPMs, engine temp. ...etc. when the Change Oil message appears? This likely doesn't answer your question on factors but here is FAQ on what GM calls the GMOLS (http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/environment/news_issues/news/simplified_maintenance_qa_040104.html)

are the reset or replacement of oxygen sensor covered under warranty?

it should be covered. O2 sensors should be lasting years, not months.

"there was something on the computer wrong"
all i said was just get my car straight out. now its about 4-5months later and its on again and i got the code read... it was something about the cat not eficeint... car runs great fuel milage is still awsome... but check engine light is on...

Probably one of the oxygen sensors...have gone thru two so far on my '06 GTP coupe. One went out after three weeks and the other just happened a few weeks ago at 51,000.

I figured those long 80mph turnpike drives I take must be burning them out !

i am having the same issue, but i am also getting a "service air bag" message to go with the engine light and the "check gas cap" message. now, before all of this started i was getting some serious "static" shocks when i got out of the car that i was dismissing as static shocks due to the cold dry air. i don't recall if these were happening in december or january, but one the enigine light and messages started the "shocks" stopped, which has me wondering if there is some sort of short in the electrical system. has anyone else had a similar situation?
