: GM Workers Laid Off.........I'll take it!!
MIG6GTP 01-03-2006, 10:50 AM The GM "Layoffs" are quite the bargain in my humble opinion.
Here's what GM workers are getting
-95% of their annual earnings for 3 years
-Lifetime Job Placement Assistance
-If the worker chooses another line of work and needs schooling GM picks up that bill. Oh and if their spouse wants to go to school. GM picks that up too
So I say GM...Lay me off! I'll take a 3 year paid vacation, free education for me and my spouse and lifetime assistance in getting a job.
Robyn P 01-03-2006, 11:19 AM What!?!?!!
~niKKi~ 01-03-2006, 12:59 PM Damn.
Btw, where are you at in MI??
MIG6GTP 01-03-2006, 02:36 PM It's funny what the media doesn't tell you isn't it?
The media is making GM look as if they're really sticking it to those workers that are being laid off. When in fact GM has the best "lay-off" plan in history.
Shoot if it takes you 3 years to find a job, maybe you deserved to be laid off in the 1st place.
Oh, and by the way, another interesting fact. Did you know GM Teir 1 suppliers like Dephi are actually paid 3x the normal wage than that of someone in a competing market. Dephi for instance makes quite a few of GM's fuel Injectors. The average Dephi worker makes 3x that of someone else who would manufacture a Fuel Injector.
Just proof that there are 2 sides to every story.
P.S. Nikki - (Cold cut trio - shh! keep it quiet)
otcpharm 01-03-2006, 06:56 PM Something else that's frequently glossed over is that a good portion of their "workforce reduction" is going to be through "unreplaced attrition" -- both regular retirees and employees who take an early retirement package whose jobs are subsequently eliminated rather than being refilled.
MIG6GTP 01-04-2006, 12:38 AM ^ Yeah, but have you seen the early GM retirement package?! I'd retire on it now!
~niKKi~ 01-04-2006, 05:24 AM P.S. Nikki - (Cold cut trio - shh! keep it quiet)
hahaha gotcha ;)
Explr1 01-04-2006, 06:29 AM -95% of their annual earnings for 3 years
IBM has done the same thing to workers in my area several times in the last ten years. I left IBM before it happend to me and now work for a German owned company, Schott AG. You usually get the three years in one lump sum, after they tax it 50%. Plus, what about health insurance? COBRA doesn't last forever! Lastly, where is everyone suppose to find work? I've seen the Michael Myers movies about Flint MI and the surrounding areas, and I don't see GM paying relocation and moving fees.
MIG6GTP 01-04-2006, 12:44 PM GM's paying out 3 years of salary. It's not one lump sum. (Honstly GM couldn't afford it anyway)
An employee has 3 years to find a job and get continuing education. If they're such a bum and can't figure out how to make life work after GM in 3 years. They probably didn't deserve to work for GM in the 1st place.
Sorry man if you're counting on Michael Myers (who makes a joke out of everything ie...Columbine) for the truth and information you need to get your facts straight.
TLS2000 01-04-2006, 11:02 PM Mike Myers is "Austin Powers".. You're thinking of Michael Moore.

You might think differently if you have a $250K house, two car payments, three kids, and real bills!!! Making fun of someones misfortunes is not funny!!! This board is really starting to go in the sh*tter with the resent influx of retards latetly!!! Time to move to another board for me!!!
Robyn P 01-05-2006, 06:52 AM The problem is, and I've seen it where I live when Eaton left to go to Mexico, is these people will get this money, draw unemployment, go to school for free, and never look for a job. After the 3 years, they will be on there pitty pot b/c GM laid them off and now they have no income coming in and will want everyone to feel sorry for them. Eaton laid off about 5 years ago, gave a huge deal to all the workers and I still see people that have not worked since they got laid off and have since lost their 250K house, etc..., which in Tennessee is a HUGE house. Cost of living here is way less than the North. I feel bad for anyone that gets laid off, but that is a great deal GM has offered, compared to what other companies might give or not give. Fact is people get laid off everyday and people quit jobs everyday. It's a rotating cycle. :(

Just because you have a difference of opinion is no reason to call someone a 'retard', or to threaten to leave for the second time. But I do have to agree with you on one point, it's not cool to make fun of another's misfortune. I wouldn't wish job loss on anyone. :(

The point of my post was not to "make fun of" GM employees. But to point out that there were many sides to the story that media or the internet doesn't tell. GM is taking mighty good care of a laid off employee in my opinion.
I'll keep my other opinions to PM's. That is policy here isn't it?
GTPGuy82 01-06-2006, 01:43 AM Three years is a pretty long time though. I'd say 6-8 months at the most.
As for the job placement...is that for any type of job?
Mike
MIG6GTP 01-06-2006, 06:47 AM From what I understand it is for any job.
You can call into a 1-800 number speak with a representative. Give them your GM badge number and a list of companies you'd like them to contact as well as a field that you'd like to go into, and you're going to have a rep working for you calling companies on your behalf setting up interviews for you.

It just blows my mind!!!
MIG6GTP 01-12-2006, 08:20 PM Oh yeah, and if you want to relocate somewhere else in the country..........sure they'll pay for that too :)
I'm telling you, it stinks to lose a job and be laid off, but if I could take 3 years to better my life with a company backing me and paying for it all, it's one heck of a severance package!
johnny 06-28-2008, 03:04 PM can any GM employee offer me a discount, i was looking to buy a new GM such as a G5 or Cobalt and I do not have very much money.
I would appreciate it.

coupe_gtp 06-28-2008, 09:56 PM your asking for help in a thread about people getting laid off. I find that very ironic.
