I want to keep it at least another year, and so far so good. This week, when I start it, there is a message on the DIC that says "Check Gas Cap".

Anyone else had this issue? I don't think it will be resolved by buying a new gas cap and I talked to the dealer service guy and he said they'd need to run a check to see if it has to do with the fuel system, which is the only major repair I've done to date (new fuel pump, lines etc, almost $1200.

Any suggestions?

Thanks from a newcomer

Good idea to avoid the hassle/possibility of me screwing it up? Or could I save a lot of money DIY?
Also, how easy is it?

I've searched all over the car and even took the dash apart and cannot find it. I called the local junkyard to see if they had one and they don't. I live in a very small town and there's only one junkyard within miles of this place. Does anyone know where I can get one of these? I hate having a hole in my dash and would like to replace it. It can't cost that much. I'm just having trouble finding it. I've searched online but I'm not even sure if I'm calling it the right thing.

I've taken a picture of where it would be if it were if that helps. Can anyone help?

I have noticed that here and there my car smells like wet dog when i get in. Sometimes it hasnt rained for days. There have been a few times where i noticed after/during a hard rain there are water droplets that will pour down from the small area located between the windshield and the sunroof where the button to operate said sun roof is located.

Im initially chalking this up to weather stripping issues.

But i thought about it and remembered that during the winter my windshield would also ice up on the inside...so even after ive sat in the snow for 20 minutes scraping off the car i have to repeat on the inside of the damn windshield..

could this be related to each other? and any suggestions?

Ok, so before I go all-in on this project, I've seen a little information about replacing the electric steering assist motor yourself, and I'm just looking to find out who has actually done this and what I should look out for. I bought a 2007 G6 base model in Feb this year and have been having the steering wheel shake on its own for about a month, and the Power Steering flash on the DIC a couple times. GM at least cut me a break on the diagnostic, and they told me there was an internal short in the steering assist motor, and their cost to replace was between $550-600. I have seen the motors on Ebay for anywhere from $45 - $190 from parted-out cars. I'm looking to purchase one and change it myself.
I've seen people say 2 bolts and 3 plugs, easy as cake. Then, I've seen you need the programming tool. My issue is, where was the steering wheel positioned when power was cut for the last time? Will the motor automatically center itself, or will it cut to the left like I have seen some people say it does? I have a friend who has a programming tool, what would I need him to do? I have a Haynes manual, but there isn't any information about changing the motor at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll probably make a step-by-step tutorial with pics after I do this, unless there is one already and I just haven't found it. Trust me, I have searched! Then, it'll be sit down and grab a
