G6 computer reboot

My girlfriends car is a 2008 G6 with the 2.4. While she was gone I took it to the dealership because between 35-55 the torque converter locks in pretty rough. I had it to the dealer and they stated that everything was fine with the transmission (no lights, pressure and fluid color). I then got the excuse that its how the car was designed to drive (really.. never had a car drive like that before). I did read on here that the car "learns" how the driver drives and that resetting or rebooting/clearing the computer can sometimes solve this problem. Can I do this by disconnecting the Battery cable or is it something the dealer has to do?
