Unhappy Oil Leak!!!!!

I have a stock 2007 G6 with the 3.5 V6 in it. I just noticed I am losing oil I crawled under and notice the oil filter is wet along with the bottom of the oil pan. I cannot tell wether or not it is coming from the oil pan gasket or the adapter the oil filter screws on??? I talked to my local autoparts store and they said there is a gasket of some sort on the adaptor that the oil filter screws on.. Has anyone else had this problem or should I just replace both gaskets. Thanks Lamone Taylor

To start with, you might want to confirm the oil pan bolts & plug & the filter are all tight.

If they are, I would put some dye in the oil & buy a cheap blacklight (walmart may still have them at 10 bucks) after cleaning the engine using degreaser & a pressure washer (or just a hose). Then see if you can spot the source using the blacklight at night.

Or you could just pull the oil pan & replace the gasket & hope that was the source (which it may well be).

Easier than trying to machine a filter housing into the side of the block, most GM V engines are like that.

I was thinking more like an adapter to fit a different sized filter. I hear adapter I think a modified addition to an existing layout. I can understand "housing".

Thanks for the help

It turned out to be the crush gasket between the oil filter housing and the block for some reason the gasket just failed... Went to local GM dealership and picked one up and it is just about back together and ready to ride again..
