HELP!! Suggestions please!

my father posted a few weeks ago about problems with my 08 g6. i had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealer to have a diagnostics test run to figure out the problem. I spoke with one of the service techs and they said that the problem was the power train control module, and also said that the warranty was expired. my question is, is the PCM covered under the 3 years 36,000 or the 5 years 50,000. the gentleman went on to tell me with parts and labor it would end up costing around $630. I'm looking for suggestions on maybe a cheaper way to get the car running again, or am I out of luck?Anything will help!

The PCM is fully covered for 8 years or 80K miles, whichever comes first, under the emissions warranty, excepting some circumstances such as a salvage title.

PCM is usually covered under a federal mandate of 8 years or 80,000 miles (depends on state)

Look under Emissions warranty.

I would think it could fall under the 5 yr / 100k drive train warranty

According to this post on another forum, it is. Also note that the limit is 5 years. Considering the car was bought in 2007 and the year is 2012, it might not be covered. That's just a possibility.

2008 cars are sold and manufactured in 2007.

It's 8/80 on all vehicles '95 & newer. Federally mandated. It is under the emissions warranty because it controls every emissions-related system on the car.

For your '08, the GM powertrain warranty is for 5 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first. But again, the PCM is covered for 8/80. A replacement PCM should cost you zero out-of-pocket. Nada for parts, labor, towing or troubleshooting time. If the dealer tells you any different, take it up with GM customer service directly. That the dealer has not been truthful with you concerning the PCM warranty (believe me, they know the PCM warranty-it's the same for all cars) should give you pause. You might consider going to another, though I guess they already have your car. You should also have been given a free loaner car while yours is in the shop. Not all dealers are equally honest. It pays to know your warranty rights.

You can dl your owner's manual & warranty book here:

08s were manufactured in 09/07 - 08/08 and sold when people buy them.
