Damn Power Steering message

So I got in my car and drove it for the first time today in a week. About 5 minutes in it chimes at me and the DIC says "Power Steering" I cleared it and kept driving. Power steering works fine. I've since done like 4 other trips and it never came back on. I'm thinking the cold or something just got to it.

What do you all think. Get it checked out? Or wait to see if it comes up more often. My bumper to bumper has expired so I'm pretty sure this will be one I'm doing myself. haha

I would just ignore it. Having it happen once is nothing to fret about.

EDIT: No CEL?

Power steering would be covered under powertrain I believe which is up to 100k miles

i have had the same issue...which worried me because i got the recall letter. although i'm now out of the range for that recall (6yrs up to 80k i believe?) i'm not worried until i throw a code or it actually fails

Both my '09 Aura & '10 Malibu have EPS & both have popped that message a couple of times. I can't explain why though. Steering did not seem to be affected on either at the time.

No CEL. I've read about this happening but mostly on the older models. Mines an '09 so I would think it's the newer better part.

So far it hasn't come on at all ever since. So I'm sure it's all good.

In the earlier models this was evident, but maybe your 2009 had work done to the steering column that was replaced with an older model?

I would ignore it unless you feel actual steering symptoms. GM still hasn't perfected the EPS.

Alrighty, I bought the car brand new and the door tag says it was built in November of 2008. I'm really no concerned by it. We'll see where it goes

Thanks everyone for your input!

The problem with the older cars, 05-06 was electrical power steering. It would sometimes fail and you would lose power steering upon driving- as mine did while I was test driving it/ lol I told the dealer to fix it and they said it just needed power steering fluid. Took it to my mechanic to have him look at it and he said its electric and doesn't require fluid- so went back to the dealer told them to fix it and gave ten a price that I would buy the car at- lol all in all it cost like $1,200 to them. So if your car has electric power steering it's possible something could be wrong, idk I'm not much of a power train guy, just audio/electrical. Lol

I know they had to replace the steering column, or clockspring. I bet it sure would to suck to replace the clockspring. :/ lol

Power steering not covered on powertrain, it's limited, some powertrain items are not even covered.
