cd changer error

I purchased my G6 in 2005. A few weeks ago the clock would not keep time. I have a 6 disc cd changer. I cannot eject the discs that are in the cd changer. I cannot load any and there is a cd changer error that is flashing. Is anyone else having this problem. I am wondering if this is a factory defect.

I am currently having the same problem. Happened after my battery went dead and now I cannot eject or listen to any of the CDs in my changer. It does not even recognize there are CD's in there and it's making noises as if it's changing the cd. Very strange.

yeah my battery went dead to and then i got the error ever since. I brought it to GM and they acted like its never happened to anyone before. They told me they could not fix it, I would have to buy a whole new radio.

G6 CD Changer

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6 V6 with the 6 CD Changer in it. Yesterday the CD Changer gave me the "CD Changer Error" message. Usually when this happened it would spit out the CD, I would load it back in, and everything would play fine. This time the changer did not eject the CD. It started playing the radio but the computer was still trying to get the changer to work. Every time the changer is unsuccessful at loading the CD, it stops the radio to tell me so. Then it goes back to the radio for about 30 seconds and the cycle repeats itself. Even when I turn the radio off it will come back on 30 seconds later to tell me there is a changer error, then start alternating between the radio and CD Changer again. The only thing I can control is the volume, which I turned all the way down so I wouldn't have to listen to it constantly go between the radio and changer. The CD Changer does not make any noise like it's trying to work. It's like it's completely dead.

Now Mine Too.....

Lucky me......go to my car on my break at work , go to change a cd, and now i get that error message too....
It pissed me off!!!. So I left my car, came back into my work office and have been reading these posts. Some people say it does it when the car is really hot.....So, I am praying it will be all better when I get out of work this evening.
I have has this car since june 2006, and live in New Mexico. I have not had any problems any of the past summers until now. Really weird.

money saved on oem radio

my 2000 silverado started giving me the infamous error message when i tried to play a cd so this is what i did to fix it. Get in to the main fuse control panel located under the hood 9on silverado pickups) and pull your main radio fuse. Leave it out for 10 seconds, put it back in and it should clear the error message. If that doesn't work, your radio is probably toast.

I've been having the same problem since last year. Happened after I switched the batery out. I took it to the dealership and they told me that I needed to replace the whole unit at the cost of $587.60.

Any GM radio that acts strange, pull the radio fuse a few second, then all should be well, if not dealer. Did my Malibu 6 CD 3 times in 5 years.

We have a 05 with the same problem. Dealer replaced the whole unit and 15 months later, it happened again and they will not warranty the radio. The dealer said it was the CDs. NOT true. Infact the dealer only removes the unit and then ships it out, so how can they tell me what is wrong with it? Our CDs had no lables even though the dealer said that was probably the problem. I've taken this to a higher level with NO HELP!! We will not spend good money on a bad product. We plan on replacing the radio with an aftermarket radio. One that will last a whole lot longer than 15 months. Hope you have better luck......

My 05 does the same thing after the battery died. I cycled the power to the radio with no luck.
I don't care about the CD player, I have never used it, I listen to talk radio... I'd be happy for to stop it cycling and displaying the CD Changer Error message.
A dead battery should not cause this, just poor engineering, and GM wonders what happened to its customers!

Good luck getting any help from the dealer. They will say "Bring it in" and then they will say that we will have to ship it out and before you know it you have a $200 bill and no working radio. I was able to remove the CDs after a radio shop removed the old radio from the car (because we bought a Alpine). It did not look too hard to get the radio out of the car if you are a handy person. Once the radio was out, I carefully removed a dozen or so small screws and removed my CDs that had NO LABLES on them that the dealer said was the probably the cause. NOT SO!!!!!! You might be able to have a local radio shop help you out. I had much better help and service than at Palmen Pontiac in Racine,WI. ..........
