Mine plays MP3 only, and even then it can be picky, the system will even lock up on me at times with burnt CD's...

My deck in my 2010 plays burnt CD's from WMP which I believes converts the files to WMA before burning? Maybe not, but they're MP3's when I burn them.

actually i have done this before and some cars play this and some dont but make sure when your burning the cd and if your using windows media player that you are burning in audio not data. I did this so many times then realized it was burning data cds not audio

Burned cds/dvds have less than half the laser reflectivity of a pressed cd/dvd. If a cd/dvd player was not specifically designed to compensate for that, it will have playback issues.

All my CD's play in my 2001 Sunfire (wife's car now) and I would expect the G6 player to be better.
I had the same problem. just now solved it, when you are in the process of burning the CD it MUST be in .cda format. mp3's will not work.

In other words you must burn an audio CD. Not a data CD.

Huh weird. I've never had an issue with burning and playing audio CDs. There's audio and jukebox CDs aka mp3. Maybe the programs we use is different and the wording is changed around a bit.

I know it's been a while since anyone has posted in here, but since the thread is stickyed, I'd figure I'd let y'all know whats going on (at least for my 08). Heres the problem, most audio files we listen to are actually compressed, and our computers activley decompress the file as the music plays. Therefore, the issue is that our head units don't know how to decompress these files. The trick is, burn your CD's in a manner that will decompress the audio file before burning it to a disk (I use Roxio and burn them as "Juke Box CD's"). So, I'd say give this a go, it's worked for me every time so far.

I had the same problem. I use nero to burn all my music cd's for that vehicle.
Create an audio cd in the format to play on most cd players. Nero will guide you thru the whole process effortlessly.

It seems like people are mixing up what they are actually burning. I realize the software converts whatever file you use to a cd-audio format that in the end means we can only fit ~20 songs to a disc. Has anyone found a way to burn something closer to mp3 format and get it to play so that I can have ~100 songs to a disc? Does Juke Box CD format do that?

My 09 won't play mp3 cd's. It does have aux jack, where you can plug in a IPod or mp3 player or even a lap top.
