Question Changing wheel Size from 16" to 18", can ECM be reprogrammed?

My son has a 2007 G6 Sedan Value Leader with the Eco-Tec and wants to install 18" or larger rims. He asked the dealer if they could reprogram the ECM (?) to correct the speedometer. They told him it could not be done. Is this true or are they giving him the runaround? Any info would be appreciated.

There is a simple way to upsize tires using the +1 method basically a 16" 60 series tire is roughly the same as a 17" 50 series tire. Google the method to learn more or ask a tire shop.

No need to reprogram the ECU.

225/45-18
225/50-17
215/55-17
215/60-16

These tires are equivalent to each other and no corrections are needed.
