Governer Kicked in.....

Hello all I am new to this forum, but I have had my 08 G6 3.5 GT Coupe since July. I was driving on the parkway one day and wanted to see what the cars potential was, so I stepped on the gas.. Around about 110 the car just wouldn't go any faster and kind of felt like the car shut down for a second AKA what I think to be the Governer kicked in. Is this normal at this speed cause I have been reading post of people taking the car to 125 +
Thanks.

Ya... the 08 are limited low than say an 05. I know my car stops right at 118... Garmin is really accurate on speed. I think all the 120+ is a bunch of BS... The car only makes 200-235 horsepower.... Sure it would push faster but come on... by no means is it a race car, and not to mention is governed at some speed. GM is no dummy

if you have the summer tire option the limiter is raised to around 130 at least on 06's I know. There also people that have tunes so they have no limter at all.

I don't think the car cares what tires you put on. The limiter is set in the factory based on the speed rating of the factory installed tire...at least that's what the theory is. The limiter won't be changed by installing new tires; you would have to reprogram the computer as well.

Theoretically the '05 GT goes to 135 before the governor kicks in, but after 130 the car has to work for the extra 5 mph.

Personally I've only gotten the 6 to 115 but that was because the VA state patrol is everywhere not to mention that there is too much traffic to get a good run on the highways around here.

Not saying it changes when you put new tires on or anything but I was just saying that cars that had the Summer Tire package from the factory had a higher limiter is all.
