when should timing chain be replaced

08 G6, 4cylinder.

car has about 114000 miles on engine, never been apart.

what else should be replaced?

Timing chain will be good for 250K+. You need not worry.

thanks, was not sure how long it could go. was also concerned about the guides, but them too should be ok?

daughter has to make this car last

Yes, outside of changing oil, plugs, and perhaps an occasional throttle body cleaning at the specified intervals you shouldn't need to worry about the engine causing you problems. If you had a VW on the other hand... ha.

^ Truth. I just did a complete timing set on a vr6 jetta with 103k. There were no timing guides left and the chains were just flopping around.
I found what remained of the guides in the oil pan.

The ecotec engines seem to be pretty good when well maintained. I'll admit I abuse mine quite a bit and its held up just fine.

I have replaced my timing chain tensioner, only to find the original was the newer style. And I believe those don't really need service.
Yours being an 08 likely has the newer style.
