Any guess-timations about how many miles a typical G6 will last for?

My 2006 G6 has 120,000 miles on it already, and I'm curious if anyone knows how many miles this thing will probably go......

200,000+ if you keep up the matience and as many as you have I'm guessing most of that is highway? You will be fine
Lest of matience you should have done buy now

Flushed coolant

24 oil changes (at every 5k)

Trans fluid change

Brake fluid change and you should be on set number two of pads & rotars as well

Tires rotated or hell you should be on set number two.

Spark plug and wire change

You should haved greased all door Hinges.

Do all of these things is preventive matience, this will get your car up there. IMHO this is the problem with today society there too lazy to do it themselves. and hell i'm young

Agreed. Proper maintenance is the key to a 200K+ car, imports or not.

Current Mods:
07 G6 GT White, 84K, 35% Tint, 8k HID Lows/Fogs, Tinted Tails, DRL Delete, DexCool Delete (is that a mod?) Eibach Springs, EBC Brakes, Orange Calipers, De-Badged, Front Tower Strut Bar, Painted Engine/Battery Covers, CRABS Opt# 3, "Tiger CRAB Ram Air", Custom Catback stepped up to 2.5" from 2.25" tubing with purforated rez and free flow muffler.

Coming Soon:
18" rollers, LED red interior lighting, LED tails, Complete Audio System Renovation as I have blown it up, Sedan HH spoiler, Custom Seatcovers, dash cover and floor mats with the G6 Embroidery, Painted body color mirrors, wiper arms, both front grills, side skirts and rear facia all body color painted.

200K+ or more is possible...

I had an '88 Grand Am SE that I pretty much always drove like I stole it. The weakest point was the tranny which I had rebuilt several times, the last with Kevlar bands. The engine was rebuilt at 186,000 when the head gasket blew (common with the earlier Quad 4's) though it didn't need it - the oil pan was virtually spotless because I was militant about oil changes. I sold it into service as a taxi in Mexico (no lie) with almost 250K, still running strong. I didn't know the exact mileage as the digital odometer stopped at 199999.

The moral of the story is with proper care, you can see your G6 go 200K or even 300K+. Just keep up with the maintenance according to schedule and take extra care if you drive it hard (I did oil changes every 3500 miles, I drove it that hard). There's a reason I bought yet another Pontiac...

i have 264,000 on mine , i use royal purple racing oil only , i cgange it well under 8,000 miles { purple can do 12,000 } and i drive it like i bank robber so she's flushed and purged at all times and the only work ive done is minor suspension and exhaust work . take care of it and you can hit 300,000 miles on a care no problem

I didn't think you were supposed to mess with the trans fluid in these cars? Also, my pads/rotors only last a year tops, how do yours last 100k miles? The rotors are so small for this car.

You definitely have to change your tranny fluid. I went with aftermarket rotors and have about 100,000 miles on mine. Pads need to be changed regularly.

The owner's manual indicates that no transmission service is needed under normal driving conditions.
Personally I don't want to take that chance as my transmission failed prematurely on the Montana under normal driving condition.

My rotors have lasted about 50k, but my pads wear down within a year even with full ceramic pads. No idea why.

At what mileage? Can I do it myself? I don't see a way to drain or fill my tranny. 2010 4cyl.

Is it a 4T45E? If so you have to drop pan to drain. While your there change your filter. Install pan and new gasket. Pull check plug/bolt from the side of the Transmission. Fill from the top (looks like the pic below) until it starts flowing out the check plug. Reinstall plug / bolt. Start car cycle through gears, with car still running pull plug and refill fluid until it starts leaking out of plug hole again. Reinstall plug and you're done.

Speaking of this tranny fluid, i purchased the car last year at about 142K and no records of tranny fluid changed...is it too late to change the fluid or can it still be done? Thanks.

Too late. Most people say to do it long before 100k. Severe service is recommended by 50k.

I have a 2006, G-6 with, 203,000 and counting. My last two Grand Ams lasted over 330,000, and were still running. Many cars will last a long time. If you change oil regularly and do not beat them to death. I can fix just about anything myself. I change my oil about every 6,000 miles. Works for me.

I also have a couple of Camry's. Both have over 200,000 miles as well. When my cars get a lot of miles on them, I get then devalued at the county PVA office. Saves on taxes in KY.
