Base is the same as gxp/gtp as far as tire/wheel fitment goes.

overall tire size is different thru the models.. this will effect your speed readout..

225/50-18 is larger than the 225/50-17..

i just put 225/50/18 instead of 245/45/18 on my base g6 with aftermarket wheels (18x8) and when i accelerate the car heavily pulls to the right and when trying to drive straight it goes to the right immediately. Almost like the car feels unstable? Do i need a alignment badly? or something wrong with the tire size on my car?

Tires shouldn't be the problem. Get an alignment and if they say something is wrong with the camber on the front, you might have to elongate the bottom bolt hole on the strut itself so that it will go back into alignment.
