Push button start

Was wondering if anyone has ever done a push button start mod...I was talking to a buddy of mine with an SRT4 and he was saying on his forums there was a how-to using a S2000 push button start system through a 12v outlet...thoughts????

If you eBay it there's a ton of them that you hook up to the ignition but you still have to use your key and turn the ignition to the on position and then hit the button. It's a neat mod and they're cheap but essentially your adding an extra step to turn on your car. On the other hand I don't remember what it was called but there was this module I came across that you can buy and it completely replaces the ignition. How it works is they're is a key pad that you also have to install that acts as the accessory switch. You press a button and the accessory turns on then if you type your pin in it activates the ignition and you use the push to start button. They have the key pad bc once its installed you obviously don't need a key to turn it on so you have the key pad for security to keep anyone from hopping in and going with your vehicle since we don't have the proper chip keys and sensors installed like cars that come with the push to start option. I don't remember what its called but I came across it on youtube. It's like push to start Silverado or something like that. I was just searching how to install push to start and came across it. The only catch is after I looked into it a little more I found that the whole unit and parts needed come together but its over 400 bucks for the parts. So its pretty pricey. You can get the imitation ones off eBay I first mentioned for like 20 bucks in different colors. Sorry I can't remember what it was called but just search youtube and you will find it.

I was looking into it and found the problem is the key has an RF chip in it and there's a reader in the ignition cylinder. So you need the key in order to install the push button.
But I was looking around and found for alarm systems with remote start, you can bypass that by adding a module. Cheaper ones require you leave a key behind the dash, but newer ones I guess can be programmed or learn the key's ID. But with using that bypass you should then be able to just hop in, start it and go. But you run into the problem of ANYONE just doing that, if it's unlocked.
So then you need some kind of card or chip you keep with you, so it detects when you get in the car and unlocks the ignition for you. You then can probably make it work for the locks somehow...
But there are kits like these: http://www.amazon.com/Dowontech-ST800-Smartkey-Button-Included/dp/B004Z1TISK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344814794&sr=8-2&keywords=Push+button+start+kit
That run for for over $300 that can bypass the security RF ID chip and allow it to be complete secure, and it includes a pin pad system like J dog mentioned.

I ultimately decided not to have a push button start, although putting one in place of the ignition would work out pretty well IMO. I don't want it mainly because I don't trust the security aspect of it. How much easier would it be for someone to steal it who has the ability to dial in the RF freq until the module picks it up and lets him go. But maybe that's impossible idk.

If you do install one, let us know how it works out. I'm still pretty interested in it.

I have driven a bunch of different s2k's newest one was a 06 though. You still have to put the key in and turn it onto the on postion or else the push button will not work.

the coolest one i have seen is a fingerprint scanner and you can program it to ten people so they are the only ones that drive the car

that is badass. expensive as hell but deff worth it if you have an expensive car. or a car with extensive work done for that matter. i think i may get one of those $20 ones off ebay and put it in just for shits and gigs lol a few added bonus points at a car show.
