Worth buying a GXP?

I own a 2008 G6 2.4L and I'm considering saving for a GXP coupe. Would it be worth it?

Higher fuel mileage vs increased cost, power, and quality. Decide what you want from your car. Sedans are more functional. I never want to own a coupe. You can make either car into a head turner with some aftermarket parts.

Consider how your car can affect your quality of life. I went from a 97 purple wrecked and run down Ford Escort that I sold for $1450 and bought a 06 black fully loaded perfect condition G6 GT for $3000. I now pay $100 more per month in insurance since I switched to full coverage, and I get about the same fuel mileage. The G6 is a lot classier. I feel more confident in general driving it. I feel secure that my car won't break down. The G6 has higher safety ratings than the Escort. Full coverage insurance gives me a nice peace of mind. I know that when it comes time to sell the G6 in a few years I will probably make 50% profit on it when I do.

How will the increased cost of a GXP affect your life? The only reason I could see you justifying it would be to go fast. I don't care to go fast, so that's not something that I factor in. I don't think the GXP is more likely to get you laid compared to the 2.4 unless you go fast.

Getting laid has nothing to do with me wanting the GXP. I just wanted an opinion of a GXP owner. The fuel economy won't be much different than my base G6. I'm not even worried about the cost because GXP coupes run about 13-18k when I already got my current G6 at 14,800$ marked down to 12,600. Only thing that would be a "life changing factor" is the cost of the insurance and moving from a 2.4L sedan to the GXP

2008 G6 4 cyl 2.4 22/25/30 mpg
2008 G6 6 cyl 3.6 17/20/26 mpg

$400-1000 a year extra on gas depending on how you drive.
$100-300 a year extra insurance depending on your insurance rates? Just guessing.
$7000 or more extra initial cost because you will take a loss on your current G6 and the GXP costs more.

The insurance difference is actually the least of the three when it comes to cost of ownership difference. Good luck with your decision.

My G6 as of now is getting what the GXP should be getting and yes I drive it city and highway and not like a maniac. So I'm not worried about the mpg's like I said.

Totally agree with the gas being a factor for him. Especially when prices are over $4.00 a gallon.

Initial cost of course is going to be higher and nobody gets diddly on a trade in with their G6 be it any model or year. It is one of the worst cars right now for several reasons to expect any kind of value out of on a trade in. Sedans are a dime a dozen and can be bought at auction for near nothing. Plus it is a brand that no longer is produced, which also kills trade in values.

As for insurance, that I have to disagree with you on simply because he is moving from a sedan (cheap insurance) to a coupe (much higher insurance) and a GXP to begin with. So he should expect much higher insurance rates than what you are thinking. When I owned my coupe I could not believe the ridiculous rates. When I asked why, I was told because there are not many coupes out there and parts are far rarer for sheetmetal repairs as opposed to sedans. A GXP coupe is even rarer. So supply and demand take full effect here. He should call his insurance company ahead of time and just compare quotes before making a decision that could financially overall take him out of the game. No sense in owning a car that you cannot afford and then have to part with it in no time because of it.

As always, we all have different means and abilities to pay for them. Stay within budget and get the most from what you can afford.

That's my 2 cents.

Don't forget its also LARGELY dependant on what your driving record is. For example bc my record is shit ( speeding tickets out the ass ) I pay 220 a month on my 07 2.4 sedan. As for my girlfriend she drives the exact same car ( 07 2.4 sedan) only she has a pristine driving record I believe her insurance is only 100 bucks. Insurance is also mostly about the value of your car. Back to my gf she had a 12' altima 2.5s sedan and her insurance was 120 a month over the car she traded a 08 sentra base which she paid like 50 bucks a month for. Of course a coupe adds a bit. But all in all don't let the insurance scare you.

And also I agree JUST DO IT!! haha its a gxp.

Plus you can get the gxp all day for under 15g's with lower mileage. So depending on what you owe on your current 6 and the rate whatever bank will give you ( get your parents to sign with you if they have good credit. It will help a lot on the rate) you should probably be looking at around 250-300 bucks a month. Ok my 2 cents as well. Lol just sayin go big or go home ( if you can afford it ) lol

I say no. by the time your done saving up for the GXP, you would have enough money to just mod your current G6 into looking better than any gxp. you can always order bells and whistles off the internet (Heated seats, spoiler, foglights,...ect). I would choose gas milage over a few extra horses any day. remember, the speed limit is 65-70 no matter where you go.

JDog, my G6 is paid off. Plus we might give it to my bro leaving me available to get a new car. I don't care about gas Because like I said I'm only getting 19-20 in my G6 2.4L right now. I can't decide if I want the GXP coupe or sedan. Which is better in the long run? And to the other guy, I'm not wasting my time modding my 4-cylinder G6. I'll stress again that I won't be trading in my current G6.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, and you plan on having children, or driving children around anytime.. the sedan is easier for that. The coupe is more of a "sports car" (No, I am not saying it is a sports car, just saying that most coupes are not "family friendly") Just my opinion though, and my thought when I went sedan over coupe.

That's a very good point. But I'm only 20 so if I plan I having kids, won't be more than 2 lol. I just can't decide because the coupe and sedan are both sexy. I'd get a G8 but i don't feel like saving 20G's.

Try test driving both, see which one you like better.. then you'll know.
