Question Get XM to work with stock headunit?

I am getting the 05 G6 GT 4 door. it has every option including onstar, and 6 disk monsoon system, but it does not have the factory XM installed. my question is can i buy the receiver and antenna and have it work through the factory installed head unit?

I found the Terk XMDGM100 but it does not list the G6 as a compatable car. It says it needs to be a Class II radio. What class is the monsoon radio on the G6?

Radio in G6 uses newer GMLAN serial data which is CAN-based. It is not compatible with Class II

Not good. So how can i get XM to work with the G6 head unit? When I talk to the parts guys they say its not offered. There has to be a way to get this to work with the factory radio.

Is there a receiver that uses the GMLAN connector I can buy?

Bueler? Anyone?

Surely it is possible to get XM to work with the factory head unit if it did not come with the car from the factory. Please help!!!

You only have a couple of options. You can either replace your HU with one that has XM because I am pretty sure that the tuner is built into the radio, although I could be wrong. Or you can get an aftermarket xm adapter with an FM modulator.

XM is a separate receiver. Radio is no different on a vehicle with or without XM (as long as you didn't get the base radio which does't have aux inputs to support XM or OnStar

^ Dealer, off a crashed G6 that had it, or from someone who had it in their car and threw it out because they got an aftermarket setup. Your best bet is the dealer. It'll probably cost you more than it would have originally though.

Does anyone on here have one they'd like to sell? Or know of a website where we can find wrecked G6's. ? The dealer says they do not have xm receivers for the G6 radios.

You must have a dealer who doesn't know how to order service parts

I've talked to at least 5 different dealers and none say the XM radio for the G6 is one that can be ordered. If anyone knows a part number or something I can give the parts dept that'd be great!

Ah, what they mean is that they can't add one to your vehicle (most likely). In order to do that you that you would have to add antenna, cable and then the wiring from module to the radio (none of which is in your vehicle).

So are you saying the antenna, wiring, and module is available to be ordered thru a GM dealer? If so I can do that.

Its just that every GM dealer i've talked to said the same thing. It cannot be added after it leaves the factory. If I could just get the parts I can take it to my local car stereo place and have them install it.

Well, the toughest part is the missing hole in the roof for the factory XM antenna. Dealers aren't going to cut your roof. They also aren't going to try to find another antenna to work with the factory reciever. There's a reason why it is a factory option...
