Speaker Issue

Hello all! I am needing some assistance with my speakers in my 2010 Pontiac G6. When I got in my car this morning and turned on the radio, I noticed that the driver side door speaker had stopped working as did the driver side deck speaker in the back. It's only the left side, but the tweeter still works.

I have a few questions that I need answered.

1. What would cause this?
2. Can I test the speakers by switching them from the opposite side and from front to back?
3. If I were to replace the speakers, would I lose anything if I had to cut the wires?

I will be pulling the door panels and possibly the speaker in the back if necessary tomorrow if the weather permits. I just don't want to have to replace the speakers unless I have to.

No amp means easy to swap speakers. Just like any other car where the stereo does all the work.
In the 2010 G6 the turn signal and chimes are played through the speakers using the stereo IIRC. You shouldn't have to worry about that unless you're replacing the stereo itself. Then the chimes would be replaced with a separate chime module in the harness.

Alright. It's been a few days since I last updated anything. I haven't been able to take anything apart because of the weather, but what I can say is that the speakers were working intermittantly. For example: the front driver speaker would work in the morning and not at night or would not work in the morning and would work at night. However, the speaker in the rear deck has not come back at all and I think the tweeter is starting to go. The front speaker has officially stopped producing sound at all as of Monday.

Another thing I would like to add is that all sound would stop for about a second randomly while listening to SiriusXM. I am going to see if it does the same if I listen to the normal radio.

I guess I am justing going to have to replace the speakers. Just needing to know what causes the random cut outs of sound.

And what recommendations can I get for new speakers all around? I mean, I don't want to replace all of the speakers if the other side is working, but don't want good audio on one side and crappy audio on the other. I am wanting to keep the stock head unit.

Speaker prices range so drastically it's hard to suggest something that would be budget friendly and provide good quality.
That being said there are A LOT of options out there. I'd start with crutchfield.com and see what fits your budget, look at reviews and see whats what.
Personally I got Alpine SPR series speakers, little pricey but with the right amp they really shine.
You can most definitely get away with something a little more mid-grade.

When you buy speakers they usually come in pairs anyways, so if you're replacing one side, might as well do the other anyways.
The front door speakers are 6.5" and you'll need an adapter to fit them into the door space. I cut up the old speakers and used them as the adapter to mount my new ones.
The rear deck speakers are 6x9. You need to pull the trim on either side of the rear window, unbolt the top section of the rear seats (after folding them down) and remove the entire deck cover.

I would also like to add that GM stereos don't have a particularly good lifespan. The mention of all audio cutting out would lead me to suspect a failing stereo. But since some channels work and other's don't I think starting with the speakers would be a good idea.
