Moonson replacement, best way to doit?

As I posted before I bought amp speakers and a new radio for wifes car, I want to know the best way to bypass moonson. Do you simply run new wires for everything and leave the factory cables intact "in the event you sell car and want to take amp out?

I have the metra kit and it has all the connections on the harness, but they go to the moonson amp, so essentially I imagine I ignore all the speaker cables on the Metra kit and simply run the RCA cables to amp and from amp speaker cables to speakers?

The amp I choose is a JL with 5 outputs, four for speaker and one for sub, what gauge power wire you recommend? The specs of the amp are 100 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 500 watts RMS x 1

Yep that's pretty much how you would do it. Just buy new wires for everything incase you ever sell the car you can just disconnect it and pull everything out and plug the old stuff back in. But if you aren't going to want the system if you sell the car then just pull the stock one out completely. But I'd still buy all new wiring for the car. Just hook up the wires to the metra (dont matter if you do the speaker ones or not). Run your rca's to the amp and speaker wires to the speakers and that will be good.

As for wire gauge. IMO 0awg is the best choice as long as your amp can take it, as it will leave room for possible future upgrades. Though if you don't want to spend the money to get 0awg then I wouldn't go any lower than 4awg.

Depending on the speakers he bought he might not even be able to use the full 100W. If you dont want to drill through the molex you can get 18awg around it. Im pushing roughly 60-70W through 18awg because my dad wouldnt let me drill through the molex. I actually have 2 runs of 18awg running through there. lol
