Just bought a 2007 G6! Need Info on Reliability

Hello,

I just bought a 2007 Pontiac G6 with 85,000 for my daughter's first car. Car is in great condition and paid $6,700 which was a great buy!

My son-in-law had a 2006 with over 100,000 miles and it was a very reliable car.

However, I have read some issues concerning the steering problems and some front seal oil leaks.

Should these be big concerns for me right away? Are there any other issues that I should know about?

I have read many reviews and lots of folks say these are great cars...but some others have had issues...

Please post your positive views and your horror stories (if any).

Regards,

Gazzam

They are awesome cars and fairly easy to work on. What engine size do you have? power steering is under recall if its electric so no worries there. front seals im not sure, oil filter adapter gasket is a problem on these cars but they are easy to replace and mine only took about 30 minutes.

Electric Steering

How can I check if my car came with electric steering? It's a 2007 G6 SE model with the 3.5L V6 in it...

771 Complaints Filed for 2007 G6

I came across this website that has 771 complaints filed for 2007 G6. Have any of you experienced any of these complaints? Some of these are pretty serious.

Wondering if I purchased a "time-bomb"???

You shouldn't many problems with the car. It's not a time bomb lol It's a good car and if anything goes wrong with it, it's fairly easy to fix most of it

2006 G6 GT Coupe | Emerald Green | Blacked-out Emblems and Grilles | Silverstar ZXE's | CRABS Op. 3 + FPU | Eibach Lowering Springs | OBX Exhaust

COMING NEXT: 25mm Wheel Spacers | Racingline Strut Bar & MMI's | and possibly the AIT Front Bumper

Unfortunately I'm forced to sell my 2007 G6. It's killing me cause it's prob the most reliable car I've had. My family has grown so my vehicle hast also . I think you'll love that car and your daughter will too. This forum is also filled with ppl that know a lot about these cars and are very helpful. I'm putting my car on craigslist tomorrow. Good luck!

I've got an 07 G6 GTP with similar mileage and am having an issue with the timing chain stretch. Code P0017 only. Turns out its a known issue w/GM and they've issued an extended warranty 10yr 120k miles on other cars that have this engine and the same issue. But GM won't honor the extension since its in a Pontiac.
The shift assembly had a malfunction and i no longer have cruise control and if i go into manual mode i risk not being able to drive the car since the transmission will go into some sort of failure mode.
Its a coupe so there's lots of road noise on the fwy, and the moonroof doesn't seal properly.
I wish i never bought this car, its the worst and most expensive one I've ever owned.

Sounds like a lemon, not a bad car.

Sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience. I am hoping for the best with my purchase. My son-in-law had his 2006 G6 for 7 years with 136,000 and the only problem he experienced was with his "elecric" steering seizing up on occasion. I just found out that the one I bought has "electric" steering on it as well. This makes me nervous because my 19 year daughter will be driving it and I don't want her to get into an accident.

Should I start considering replacing the Steering Position and Torque Sensor that eventually starts to fail on this steering system?

Got a 2009 GT, Great running car. Mine has a power steering pump, which is okay with me. Power steering pump is to your left, near the air intake. You can't miss it. I got mine at 58000 miles, now has 95000. Replaced both pos. and neg. battery cables. Replaced battery, right ball joint, and control arm. Had an issue with headlamp. Thought it was bulb, turned out I replaced socket. I have no complaint's at all on this car. I wouldn't worry about the steering, I would worry that your daughter isn't one of those young girls that think they are fast and they tailgate.

05 GT with 104k miles here, only problems I've had are the starting issue but I just press on the accelerator a bit and it starts right up and the shaking my front end has but I think that's due to the person who had the car before me got into an accident. My outer-tierods went out but that was a very simple fix.

Keep up maintenance on it and you should be good!

Oh my six disc changer broke so I can't listen to CDs anymore.. not a major deal but eh.

Let's just say all G6's have their own problems.
