Adopted a Stray GTP

I am a member on many forums. Typically my membership is by choice. However, joining here today is a result in unfortunate circumstances around my “new to me” G6.

I live in Washington near the Seattle area. I maintain my vehicles to the best of my ability and try to do everything myself. Unless it’s out of my experience and comfort level.

I co-signed on a 2007 GTP with my roommate ,best friend at the time.

I left on deployment for some time and came back to a very disappointing situation. The transmission broke and my roommate couldn’t afford to fix it.

He had it towed back to my house with the transmission in pieces left inside the back seat and trunk. He stopped making payments and bought a $600 beater to drive around in.

He moved out and broke all contact.

I’m left with a broken car that i am making payments on. Not being one to give up I decided to make this car useful to me. But where do I start.

This is where you guys come in. I’ve talked to shops and dealers but nothing beats talking to a pool of experience and talent in a forum.

It’s a very nice car. Everything about the car is in good shape. However if I just let it sit in the driveway the moss and mildew with take over. Thank you for listening.

Welcome! The G6 community isn't what it used to be. But there's still a wealth of knowledge on these sites. Good luck with your project! Parts should at least be pretty common.
Hopefully mr roommate didn't mess up your credit. It's the worst to be paying on something you can't drive.

If I was in that situation I'd almost rather find a junkyard transmission with lower miles and swap it in. But I tend to avoid internal transmission work as I haven't learned EVERYTHING there is to learn yet heh

Emerald Green and GTP, pretty cool. Looks pretty decent, I agree, swap the trans, flush the cooler, wash it, go. Leaving mileage salvage is likely okay, internal trans failure not that common, but try for at least a 90 day warranty.
Send more pictures.
