New GXP owner checking in.

New guy here from the Chicago area and today I purchased a used 2009 G6 GXP in white with two-tone gray/black leather interior with 32k miles. This is my first foray into the GM world since I traded in my 99 Chevy Tahoe for a new 2004 Black Ford Mustang Mach 1 (hence the Blackpony04 tag) that I have sadly since sold to finance an ultimately ill-advised house project (don't ask!). While I do bleed Ford blue for the $ this G6 gives me everything I've ever wanted in a car at a discount price.

Anyway, glad to have found the forum and thanks for all of the advice I've discovered already!

I once carried my 250lb buddy and my 250lb brother with me in my 07 Mustang coupe on a road trip to Chicago. Yeah it was like a gorilla humping a football but it is possible to fit an adult in the back seat of a Mustang! At least on the passenger side that is.

Honestly though, that's the real reason we bought the GXP as I am a 100% certifiable Mustang nut (13 owned and counting ranging in age from 1965 to 2007) but it certainly isn't a practical DD. But while the Expedition was a great people hauler it got incredibly terrible gas mileage and its condition was poor (bought it cheap for a reason) so I couldn't keep it any longer. After considering the Malibu, Saturn Aura, and the G6 it all came down to best bang for the buck and the GXP really caters to the car nut inside of me. Sorry that Pontiac got the axe but I honestly know I benefited from it as I don't think there's a car out there with as many amenities for the $. As a Ford guy I could have bought a Fusion but a comparable one would have cost me an extra $4k and this one still has 2k on the 3/36 warranty and 65k/4 years on the powertrain warranty so it was a real no brainer as far as decisions go.

Sorry, no pix yet but I'll get some together when I get a chance. Within hours of buying it Mother Nature decided to dump 6+ inches of snow on us and my white car was pretty well lost under the snow in the driveway!

Thanks for the welcome all!

I sold my Mach 1 2 1/2 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't miss it. I keep a photo of it next to my bedside table. No pix of the kids or the wife, but one of my baby is there!

BTW, long time member of the Mach1 Registry. Blackpony04 there too.

i still have my expedition it is definatly more comfortable than the G6's but it costs a fortune to drive so i use it for a winter vehicle and when i have to haul things and i just bought a maxima cheap so i can put both of my GT G6's away for the winter because what ever they are putting on the roads in ohio are eating cars up my expedition had no rust on it before last winter and now both quarters are starting to rust so i have to much invested in the G6 gt's to let them start rotting but anyway i am still a big ford guy!

Okay, I'll accept that challenge. Here goes:

Bought a 1965 Mustang Fastback from a guy in Plano TX. Flew one way from Chicago into Dallas with my then 13 year old son. Rented a small U-haul truck at the airport since it was 1/3rd the price of a rental car and could be driven one way and left in Plano. Picked up the car and began the trek back to Illinois. Made it into Oklahoma before the radiator overheated and popped the top. Pulled off on the side of the road and was met by an Okey State Trooper who informed me that he had to leave as there was a jail break in the vicinity but he would check on me in time. Okay, son's freaking out at this news (as am I a little) so I loaded up some ditch water into the radiator and managed to limp it into a small town where the sidewalks had already been rolled up at dark. Luckily a small auto shop was just closing but the owner welded me up for $10 and got us back on the road within the hour (I will always like people from OK for the rest of my life for that). Oh, and I didn't know the car had air shocks installed in the rear until much later so we spent the entire trip bottoming out on the rear tires too. Needless to say, IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!

I could go on more with my Mustang obsession but I'll agree to a truce that says all Mustang nuts are equally crazy!

Took a moment to get some snaps of the new car. Freezing asz cold out and I left the car keys inside the house so no pix of the interior yet as my frozen butt wasn't about to go back outside!
