So, I got the assist module back from the company that was supposed to rebuild it and they sent it back saying that they can't locate the parts to rebuild it. So i called the dealer and they want $495 for the assist module by itself or $700 for the whole steering column with the module and everything. So yesterday I called up to this little place in Rancho Cordova, CA called Recycle Road. They have every junkyard possible! The guy there told me he has an entire column for $240 with a 1yr warranty! Sweet, I headed up there yesterday and picked it up, but it was from a Malibu. No problem, they are the same part number, but it has an ugly brown malibu steering wheel and won't look anywhere in place in a black interior G6. So I figure that i'll just take the assist module off the new one and put it on the old column with the old motor and voila! Not so fast! I bolted (actually two little inverted torx screws that connect the motor to the "brain"/assist module) it together and started the car thinking, That Was Easy (kinda like the staples commercial), and low and behold the steering wheel shimmies all over the place just like it did before. so i turned it off and tried again. It still shook but i was like whatever, if it has the power steering i'll live with it. Then the infamous BING! No more power steering!!!!!!!!! So i'm now going to replace the factory column with the "new" one and see what happens. Now I am trying to figure out how to remove the air bag so i can take the G6 wheel off and put it on the malibu column.
And as to the guy that ordered the part and was waiting for his Haynes manual, How did that go for you? I came to find out that they don't make a Haynes manual for an '06 G6!!! It's not really neccessary anyway since it is just two bolts under the dash and disconnect the column from the shaft and voila!
