Tough Steering? PS out at speed?

I love my G6, had it for a few months now.

I have two complaints.

1) The power steering. When sitting at idle I can turn the car with two fingers. Turns excellent. On the highway doing speeds of 55-70 I got to give the wheel a death grip and hold it on course. I recently took off on a road trip of 5 hrs and my arms were dead sore. I regularly am doing 1 hr one way trips for work and its becoming more evident something is not right.

Anyone know of the fix or can point me in the direction?

2) Building off the above. I hate the steering wheel. I cant put my hand dead center on the lower part. I hate this. Other than that I love the steering wheel and the car.

If there is an information thread on how to fix the steering please link me to it. Ive had my car for about 4 months and 7K miles. Time to fix this.

07 G6 2.9L now with 37K on it. Not a dent or scratch in it. Bought it and it looked showroom new- GM certified.

when going fast, does it seem to want to wander? or is the problem you cant turn the wheel when you want it to?

Well at highway speeds it feels like it wants to pull one way or the other.

I discovered my one front tire keeps going soft, down to 22 Lbs, and thats how it pulls.

It still steers differently while at a sit still than when moving.

It has the 2.4 four cyl.? it would have electric power steering, is your alternator charging fine and battery okay? other wise probably something with the electric unit.

Ya I got the 2.4

I dont have any electrical issues Im aware of.

I can just feel a big difference while stopped it turns very easy. When I start to take off at idle it steers harder. Not horrible.

The worst is when it pulls.

I have had other GM cars with the 60 degree V6 and the 3800 and none of them have pulled like this car does- even when tires are very low on pressure.

I will probably look more into this come spring. TO cold to work on it now... lol

in 2005 & part of early 2006 they used the steering wheel from the concept design which was a 4 poster.
That wheel allows you to hold on dead center bottom.

The airbag & wheel will set you back a pretty penny though.

WAMS High Performance Tune and a whole lot more....

Daughter's 06 G6 with 16,000 miles had intermittant and unexpected failure of power steering for two weeks, almost crashed twice. Took it to the dealer Friday Jan 7 and got a $825 repair estimate to replace electric power steering assist motor. Same problem as recalled 05 G6 in service bulletin above, but not covered under warranty for 06. I filed complaint with NHTSA (888/327-4236). Contacted GM to work through this obvious warranty problem. As of Jan 12 I have had nothing but the runaround from GM/Pontiac. Spoke with three different folks at GM, including District Specialist yesterday (Jan 11), and have heard nothing back but "We will call you back." I have not received a single option from GM as how to proceed with this. Dealer did offer to insall new motor for $ 200 labor only bill. I will give him credit for trying. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. If others are experiencing this problem, you must let NHTSA and GM know, in no uncertain terms, that this is a real safety issue.
