I wonder if it ECM is sensing low voltage or that the car is not in park.

If it's an auto tranny, it may be something with the neutral safety switch.

Try wiggling the shifter back and forth while the car is in park (if its an Automatic transmission) while you are trying to start it. Or take it out of park down twards reverse but not all the way into reverse. Keep the key turned an held in the start position while doing this. Also put the emergency break on and keep your foot on the break.

If the car starts consistently while doing the steps I described above, you MAY have a bad neutral safety switch on the transmission or you have a miss rigged transmission linkage to the shifter. Both are pretty easy fixes.

Manual transmission is a little more tricky.
Are you sure it's charger parked instead of "changer" park? It usually appears after a battery jump or change.

So I think it may be a bad battery. But it may be something with the connectors to the battery since your problem is intermittant. So I would try changing out the battery to see if that works. If not you may have something bad with the connectors.

Old thread here.
Well, it happened again this morning. And, hubby told me I was wrong. It didn't just start later, he has to get a battery jump each time. He bought a new battery and it still happened. And yes, it did say changer parked. Thank you for the info. It must be the connections.

I am not sure what "changer parked" means. Does the engine turn over at all when this is happening?

Did you try wiggling the shifter and try starting at the same time?

Push the shifter button in and wiggle the shifter it while trying to start.

I have seen the neutral safety switch do this on many cars if the linkage is not tight or it off or if the neutral safety switch or "park switch" is going bad.

Also this message may have something to do with the CD changer. Be sure to turn off the stereo when jump starting or it could fry the stereo.

The changer parked does have to do with the stereo. It "parks" the CD changer so it doesn't get fried when you jump it. It usually doesn't have anything to do with the actual starting of the car, just a result of jumping the car.

Ya I had a friend at work that fried her stereo by jump starting. It says in the owners manual to turn it off when jump starting.
