I have a 07 GTP and had been experiencing issues where the car would just die, no check engine light or anything like that almost like the key was shutoff, however after sitting for a couple of minutes it would always start back up and run. Took it to the service dept (my brother is the service manager) plugged up the computer and it showed nothing. Being persistent I asked him to drive it for a while and see if it would happen while the dealer had it, no luck the car worked flawlessly. Talked to a couple of the service guys and they were telling me about issues where they had replaced some sort of fuse block/panel but had never had one that acted like what I had described.

They took the car in and checked the fuel pressure like I asked them to and it was fine so they sent me home. A few days later the car acted up again quitting twice in one day both in traffic. I called back to the shop and asked if they could order a fuel pump under warranty to see if that would solve the problem, they did only to find out they were backordered. Finally got the call to have it at the dealer this am that the pump had came in, I also asked them to do the "smoke test" to check the fuel system for leaks. Upon starting the “smoke test” the rear of the car was smoking indicating a massive leak in the fuel system at the tank.

They dropped the tank to inspect the seals and check the pump since they had one on hand in case it needed it. Sure enough the pump was bad it had apparently shorted out inside the tank and melted the connector going to the pump. It appears there has been an engineering change since the pump was installed at the factory and had a different/updated plug for the pump. They installed the new pump/sending unit and all the seals on the tank the car is just like a new one now, no more rough idle or quitting.

I wanted to make everyone aware since I hadn’t been able to find anything at all online pertaining to this issue. Seems to me that since the pump/sender was backordered that there may a problem with the original pumps that were installed at the factory and this may be a common problem that is just starting to show up. Hope this helps someone out.

Though mine has never died, after the Check Gas Cap message 4 times, the smell of gas once, and a slight stumble feel all the times, on top of a sometimes oddly rough idle and shakes while driving...this is a good post and info to have.

As my dealer, just as it seemed with yours, can't find anything (well, at least as far as they dug, which may not be far). I wanted them to do a full leak test today at least and with the way it was chugging as well the other day with the light on, something very much may be wrong just like yours.

Aside from your rough idle and the dying...did you ever feel a shake while accelerating or just driving on smooth roads that could come and go? Just wondering if you had that symptom, as I've had, which may be related to such a bug...
