So after some videos on switching my stereo to an aftermarket one. I’ve heard I must go to the dealership and unlock my radio, others saying not but that I need and interface and or a harness, I have a “Boss616UAB” stereo with a harness already and I’m curious if thats enough

Factory radios are coded to the VIN of the car and have to be programmed by a dealer or someone with an advanced scan tool like a Tech II. Installing a third party unit will not have that problem. Where you may see issues is that the majority of G6 radios also include the Driver Information Center that gives you messages like "oil level low", pings if you leave the keys in the car or the lights on and allows you to change settings like remote start etc. That functionality is lost unless you add something like a Metra Kit or replace the instrument cluster and steering wheel buttons from a later model. I recall seeing quite a few threads on these topics and it may be worth your time to search for a few.

Hope you get it working the way you want
