12V outlets work, then stop

102 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jjaaamG6
I have a 2009 G6. Recently my 12V outlets quit working properly. They work for a few minutes when I first start the car, then they die. It does it on the one near the gear shifter and also the one in the center console.

I checked the fuse and it seems to be OK.

Any idea what the problem might be? An intermittent short that only occurs when the wires heat up or something?

The accessory outlets require both power and ground to function. If you have a multi-meter you should be able to tell which you are losing and work backwards from there.

Understood. My fear is that it’s some wire break somewhere that would be a total pain in the rear to get to. I might just have to deal with it; sucks though because I can’t charge my phone or use my Bluetooth transmitter.

But, at least I can hook up my phone using the aux port. That sounds better anyways.
